“It doesn’t have a trolling motor, doesn’t get very shallow, and he doesn’t have his transducer hooked up.”

That’s all I had for years. Danforth anchor, no trolling motor, no sonar and somehow I got by. The fishing was a lot better then, too. But it worked for Breton Sound.

“I committed the cardinal sin of LAFB and did not plan anything for this trip. My plan was to get to Breton Island, idle around the beach and look for something that was worth stopping for.

Honestly, that could work. Well, it did. But it’s just that time of year, the river is up, Breton Island could totally be a one stop shop. That and we both know you can see the rigs you want to fish.

    “Shoutout search function.”

Thank you for demonstrating a modicum of initiative. Man, I wish more people did that. Sure is a let down to bust ass making content just to have people ignore it. Thank you, this makes the effort worth my time. I really appreciate that. You literally rolled the Dooms Day Clock for LAFB back a little bit. Everybody should buy you a beer.

“We chose Campo’s because I wouldn’t go to Hopedale Marina on the 4th of the July if it was my last day on earth.”

Yeah, I’d rather shoot myself. lol

“He was jacked and that right there pretty much made his trip.”

That’s awesome. Good for him. Little did he know the extra goodness to come.

“The birds we started on were too far off the shore though, so we moved closer to the shore and anchored up this time.”

Excellent thinking. This is why you’re TOTS and everyone else is just a warm body thieving oxygen.

“say that live shrimp is just a necessity in the summer time”

Because people are retarded and no matter how much content I make proving otherwise they’ll stay inside their perceived comfort zone and continue to goose egg. “iTs An iNsuRanCe pOliCy” or whatever makes them feel better. Or maybe just listen to the guy who does this for a living and watch his hours-long unedited videos catching them without live shrimp, and maybe take time to notice that what he’s doing to that end is throwing a cork or dropping an HDS over the side of the boat to catch these fish. There’s no mystical “wOrKinG tEh LuRe”, just finding biting fish in the first place. Not hard. But boy, do people love to make it hard. Maybe just go bowling or try finger painting.

“We caught 30 trout. He caught 2.”

    Yeah, sounds about right.

“I have nothing against live shrimp for the record.”

I DO!! lol Just kidding. It has its place in the toolbox, it’s just not the best or overall best tool or a guaranteed way to catch fish. find fish > live bait

And when people do catch using live bait they attribute it to the live bait, rather than the thing that was actually happening: i.e. boat positioning, sinking weight, good presentations, just being on the fish to begin with, etc.

“Mission success. Overall an incredible day.”

    Hell yeah it was.

If I sound grumpy it’s because Breton Island is probably on fire right now. It’s been hard overcast out there all morning. I was supposed to go today in my buddy’s bay boat, but he chickened out and wanted to go sight fishing instead. Oh well.

As always, great report, thanks for posting!

Hey Arne, welcome to the Community.

I’ve had anglers from Texas to Virginia sign up for my courses, but haven’t had any posting in this forum. It’s only a year old.

However, making a planning post for your next fishing trip would still be beneficial because you’d be getting a second (third, fourth or fifth, etc.) on the thought process/approach you’re using, and that could save you a steep learning curve. Yeah, it’s a little extra work, but totally worth it.

What part of Texas are you fishing? Galveston?

Yesterday this forum made one year old and it has over 1,000 posts in here, most of them being baller fishing reports.

    So badass.

    Thank you, everyone.

In this case, it probably has little to do with your approach.

Those fish aren’t parked in one spot ambush feeding, they are hunt feeding on the move and, as they do, they’re hopping up shrimp in their path.

This isn’t the same as the fall pattern (though it does happen during the fall pattern) where we see them staying in one spot.

Yeah, you’ve got to stay on the trolling motor. Sometimes it pays off. Sometimes you’re on a wild goose chase.

“Launched at Pass Christian at 420 and started making my way to the Chandeleur Island chain.”

You are a unit. I love it. It had to have been a gorgeous morning out there. I was definitely still asleep then. lol

“I left them biting at 7:15”

    I am not worthy!!!!

What a trip. Excellent report. Posting it just before the 4th, too. You are a gentleman and a scholar.

Sounds like snapper have been the easiest fish out of everything this summer.

Yeah, things will definitely improve whenever the Mississippi wants to make up its damn mind and begin falling. Like, c’mon!! lol

    Great report, thanks for posting!

In this report a member reported that the Dope Boat is indeed still there. It may or may not still be a hazard to navigation. It gives an obvious upwelling when the current is moving. There is probably still some amount that is still findable on sonar.

“The barrier islands west of the river should be firing on all cylinders and it just doesn’t seem that way based off the reports.”

My guess is that they’re more pressured with Grand Isle being right there. I dunno.

Forget Weather Channel. Don’t even consider it. Look at marine based forecast like NOAA and Windfinder.

After that, make sure you’re looking at the exact area you are planning to fish. Wind does not blow the same across Louisiana’s coast.
