This is good intel for Monday! Were you even tempted to go to the pen after your day earlier this week?
Also curious about which launch you pick and why. I use Joe’s because I’ve got my boat in one of their sheds. Gotten to know them and they’ve been super friendly.

Man I’m happy to hear you had just as confusing of a day as I did last week, but happier that you slaughtered them! I’m probably going Monday and your report is really screwing with what I think I’m going to do. Hopefully manilla and hackberry/creole have some good water after this stretch of mild weather.

I’m working through the weekend but hoping the good weather pattern holds out through Monday which is my fist opportunity. Windfinder is suggesting it probably will. I’ll be in the Barataria basin and planning on finding them further south than last week and setting up in an early summer pattern.

I’m finally getting to go tomorrow for the first time since before Mardi Gras and I figured the Pen was done. I’m planning on running down to hackberry/creole bay in the morning. Or hit up airplane bay and that area. But may stop in the Pen on the way out? Should be decent weather and tide movement all morning before the wind picks up and ruins the rest of the weekend!

Man I just logged on to post something similar. It’s looking like Monday is my best (only)bet for the week. Could maybe make Wednesday work but not sure if another two days would make much of a difference. I guess my question for the board is “How much should I temper my expectations?”
I’m worried it was a trout apocalypse. All of the monitoring sites I check were like 35-36F. The bayou DuPont one looks like it may have frozen over for a while.

Agreed with Josh. No issues with the rigolettes route. The east side of the pen is fine too. usually 4 ft. Just keep an eye out for the random stickup.
The route along the south side of the Pen probably hugs the shore too closely. They had a big dredge out there doing some work and making a berm or something that made me have to go farther north that I usually have to go. Not far though. And it was well marked with some orange floats.
Bayou dupont is easy to navigate until you get to the area right before the polygon you drew and that entire polygon. I have gotten turned around and have run up on very shallow/silted in areas. I’m kind of a wimp, but I am avoiding that during the winter months when the water levels drop.
If I’m trying to get to Round Lake, I’ve gone through spoonbill bay. It’s a little farther and still has some pucker factor, but is a safer bet. Bay Geolette just to the south of Spoonbill is even shallower, especially entering it from the west.

As someone who about once a year leaves an accessory switch on and drains the cranking battery…this would be helpful.

lol when I saw this original post I had a strong feeling Devin was working on a robust response and I just need to be patient. Let me dig in!

This is the report I’m going to be anxiously awaiting!

That’s what I’m hoping but Josh’s report from yesterday is really messing me up. I’m just itching for the summer pattern to turn on.

Your conservation efforts are working. On me at least. Though I’ve never been the one to consistently fill the boats with limits, I’ve definitely started being more judicious with what I keep.

Blue point canals are more like 6-8 feet right now I think. And I think one boat was in the northeast part of the pen and the other closer to the entrance to bayou DuPont on the southeast side.

Man I’ve been stalking the board hoping you’d have a lafitte report. I’m planning on going Friday with a buddy and haven’t been down there in about four or five weeks. Longest I’ve gone without fishing in a couple of years!

Highly competitive makes this sound unpleasant! What is it about the side of the road is attractive for huge trout? I guess I’m looking for ideas in where to find other spots in my neck of the woods for hammer trout this time of year.
