Yes, unfortunately can’t bring the kayak but I am bringing my inshore fly gear as I’ve heard trout and redfish can be caught on shore around Old Dominion. I’m also going to hopefully try fly fishing for freshwater trout in the Appalachian’s. I have been researching and I’ll be 3 hours away from some great native brook trout streams. Very different vibe from Louisiana inshore but really excited to learn that style of fishing.

Thanks for making sense of the madness didn’t even think about our bow fishing friends lmao. “I’d be interested to see what you can get into off of LA-23 down toward Venice” I’ve been itching to try the marsh around Venice Marina or go back to the YCB. But the river being so high at 8ft has scared me away. Even if I can find some grassy ponds will it be fishable down there right now, or should I wait for the river to go down?

Unfortunately I can’t fish Friday or Saturday (Today and Friday looked great imo but couldn’t get out there). Sunday I technically could fish but looks like it’ll be very stormy lmao. But maybe I’ll get off school Monday or Tuesday for ice. If so thinking maybe fishing out of Hopedale Marina, and throwing a jig around bayou Laloutra and the spoils canal for Redfish hoping a redfish jubilee will be happening.

Agree completely One time in grand bayou I did find some type of floating grass in some Grand bayou ponds that didn’t clear up the water but brought in some fish. Unfortunately I think the last storm pulled all of that up. Just posted a planning trip to Venice hopefully I can find some grass and reds there.

I was fishing the ponds west of grand bayou and yeah not a lot of grass, redfish seem to be around but the water is dirty and seems impractical to sight fish most days. Never tried Lake Hermitage, but remember a friend telling me a few years ago that it was his go to spot for reds. But on your note yeah not a lot of grass on the west side of the river landbridge at least in my experience in kayak range seems it may be just too salty.

Thanks for your insight on the day, your response to my 3rd point made me die laughing, love the brutal honesty. In retrospect more than likely somewhere in that pond it was on. I am thinking about getting a cheap trolling motor to put on the back of the yak to hopefully up my range and be able to fish more of ponds like that one and new ponds I wouldn’t be able to reach. Anyway thanks for the insight.

Thanks for the advice. Ended up not going yesterday weather looked iffy and the wave forecasts look better as the week goes on. So will be going Wednesday with the same plan fishing Gorillaville.
