If you’re opposed to the foot control then I’d go remote all day. I’m 8 years in on a Terrova and it hasn’t given me a lick of trouble. There are other great options with remote control but that’s just the one in most familiar with. I have heard the self-deploying models are more prone to having issues.
Mastering spot lock and also the “North” feature on Ipilot make it where you can be almost completely hands free while trolling. I have a 24v on my 18’ flats boat and it does great

Not a bad morning whatsoever! Thanks for reporting back. Can’t say as I’ve ever seen a blue cat while sight fishing. Def not a 20 lber! You ever seen the monsters that swim around the cleaning station at cypress cove? They eat trout ribs like they’re potato chips

I am also a self-proclaimed Venice nerd, and enjoyed “The Rising Tide” by John Barry. Goes into detail about all of the effort by mankind to try and manage the Mighty Missip. Some of it gets in the weeds politically but it’s still an interesting read to me as I also grew up duck hunting in the Mississippi delta near Vicksburg where much of the book is set.

Speaking from limited knowledge here so take it FWIW, I’ve only fished Venice on low water falls and winters, but….
Looks like a solid plan to me. I would hit those ponds you have marked earlier in the day, when you have the combination of the east-to-west cone of light and also leverage that slight south breeze to go stealth mode and save some energy if you’re poling. I’d then chase that same scenario (if it works) on across to the ponds on the Main Pass side via Devin’s route and try them. I would prioritize the ones with long stretches of north/south shoreline so you can drift for longer intervals, and I’d enter them from the south sides so you could, again, use the wind to your advantage. I’d think you’ll be looking on the higher ends of the “staircase” as it’s not a necessarily a small tide and though likely negligible, it is still a south wind.
Good luck! I’ve always wanted to explore that area by main pass but it’s typically closed for much of the day during the time of year that I’m there. Looking forward to your report.

I misunderstood the location of the ponds you posted. I thought that they were in the chunk of marsh between BC and the River. Disregard that portion.

Good report! Welcome.
Gotta think the vast open marshes of Louisiana are a harsh place for a coyote to make a living. Tough critter!

Yep, fished it once after an all day offshore trip out of Fourchon, so it was a pretty half assed, beer fueled mission.
It also just so happened to line up on the same night as the redfish rodeo (Labor Day weekend) so there were mobs of people there fishing (my living nightmare, like hard to find a spot wide enough on the pier to cast). Still caught a few dinks to my total surprise, so maybe on your average night it could produce.
Also, if you’re a landlocked angler, we stayed in Fourchon at the end of 3090 and did actually catch a few decent trout fishing from the bank while we waited on the other boat to come in one afternoon which was cool. Some dude fishing at the road end there also caught a bull red. Good luck and let us know!

Welcome Gabe!
Do you fly fish inshore as well or are you strictly a freshwater trout guy? I, too, enjoy fly fishing for trout – mostly in WNC and North Ga but the coast of Louisiana is my absolute favorite place to throw fly.

Man, hate to hear about your engine troubles, that kinda thing is so frustrating.
Outside of that glad to hear you had a good outing with family. 3 generations on one vessel is a cool deal!

MLeBlanc, yes there are. Here’s what I do:
The triad of a VHF, a satellite messenger and an EPIRB are a good combination to manage a range of bad situations shall they arise. I keep all three in the boat on every outing.
VHF is good to have to send distress to the CG and other vessels, or even just communicate with your buddies fishing a spot close by.
Satellite messenger allows you to send actual messages from anywhere in the world given that you can connect to needed satellites. Seems the most popular messenger is the Garmin InReach. I have the SpotX messenger and have noticed it can take an eternity to connect to satellites so I wouldn’t recommend it.
EPIRB is the ultimate “oh shit” button that will fire a distress signal to the CG and keep them in touch with your location. It also fits in the palm of your hand which means it can go along with you if you capsized or went overboard.
I know that’s a lot and it’s a hefty invest but it’s kind of a fail-safe on fail-safe method like many other guys here use

When the conditions are right it sure can be fun!

Could you imagine the hysteria if a US administration tried to pull that off.
It’d be like the “we will not be covering the usage of live bait in IF101” clip x10. That portion of 101 was comedic gold, btw.
