good report! I’m waiting a little to plan my 3rd trip to Venice. it will probably be end of this month.

I would definitely be thinking trout first, redfish as by catch. you might want to try where crooked bayou goes into lake Eugene while your close to it.

Daiwa tatula, with a Arid X rod. Med Fast. I use a 6’6″. a reasonably price combo, I use on the bridges in Lake P.

I have fished several bass tournaments, but never an inshore tournament, was there any boundaries? I’m thinking a run could of won some money easily.

MemberSeptember 29, 2025 at 2:47 pm in reply to: Life Hack for Married Guys this Weekendmy wife watches Ryan Hall’s Youtube channel for the weather, she knows what is going on before I ever do. I don’t even check until Wednesday afternoon, wind changes, rain changes. I feel if I plan on Monday or Tuesday I’ll have to make another plan by Thursday because Weather forecast will be different by then. I try to fish on Fridays and spend time with family on Saturdays but I’ll alternate the days if its worth it.

This good advice! I filled up an ice chest in lake Eugene once in October, then spun my hub in crooked bayou on the way back to BSM. Took me 5hrs to limp back at 4mph.Trip to remember!

so, last weekend I launched by my house, bayou liberty, I fished bayou liberty first thing in morning, then went train bridge, hwy 90 bridge, lake catherine, ICW, then Lake borgne shoreline from Chefs Pass to Martellos castle, down MRGO to bayou Ducross to Lake borgne then back to chefs and train tressles. Honestly, not seeing any reports that are that great right now, If you are looking for a school of redfish you might find some in these areas but, If I was to make another plan, i’d hit up Hopedale, go to halfmoon, treasure bay, Christmas camp, maybe even try the MRGO behind the Dam.
If you are wanting to fish closer, I understand, I’d try csx bridge and hwy 90 bridge with HDS. Lake Catherine should be getting some trout show up in there too soon. Right now its hit and miss. Tide is going to be better this weekend than last. these spots are very spread out id make more spots closer together and close in the area you want to fish.

Not a bad report! Water wasn’t moving much this weekend. Even a lot of guides reports were lower numbers of trout and redfish. Honestly if you were to use live shrimp it wouldn’t guarantee more keeper size trout, it probably would have gotten you a few whites and croakers possibly a sheepshead or drum., where did you launch? It’s been a while since I’ve been over there, is there still a launch across the bush canal?

IMHO I like garmin maps, but the kml to GPX file conversion and download is a PITA. Most conversions websites want to charge for the software after 1 free conversion. I’ve used garmin for the last 10 years and I wouldn’t mind getting another brand just to download safe routes into.

in honesty, I use the Garmin Maps and they have enough detailed information and the contour to land is close enough. I make my safe routes in GED and convert them from a KML file to a GPX file and follow the route. Last month I went to Venice, I used Captain Devin’s KML file for his tracks last year. I converted and it and had no issue following it. I actually preferred this to the overload of point already in Garmin’s updated maps, sometimes simple is better, Garmin has a lot of Hazard spots already installed on there maps too but, Sometimes certain maps can be too busy, now nothing against Standard Mapping they make great maps using Google earth image they also have maps with safe routes to community holes and common destinations but you still want to make a route in GED and convert it for traveling, some of the images change in a 2 year period and I’m pretty sure if your going off a standard mapping card image that is two years old its already outdated for some areas. I’ve used them in the past and in certain areas of the marsh you can’t tell what is brush and what is water because its a satellite image. also your goal should be getting to and from a spot as safe as possible, I believe the transfer using GED helps with this, and its THE ONE REASON I JOINED LAFB ELITE, IT WAS THE ONE REASON I WANTED TO TAKE INSHORE 101. and it was well worth it. I feel like the info I got from that one section is well worth more than the cost of a new mapping card, so I’d save your money and spend some time on Google earth and make a safe route and follow it. rely on the info that you already have preloaded and updated on Garmins maps and use GED along with it.

Please do not consider a reduction in Buffer zone to the Menhaden Industry, a reduction in buffer would increase their bycatch by much greater numbers, resulting in millions of more dead croakers, spotted and white sea trout and other forage fish. Including Redfish, black drum, and blackfin shark. If anything, please increase the buffer zone so that Louisiana’s recreational fishery can rebound from the devastational impact that the Menhaden fishing industry has already had on our recreational saltwater fishing species.

I’m thinking about fishing the bridges, I’d use a 7ft in other situations!

I was throwing a lost coast baits white craw, with a 1/2 oz bullet weight. Punching it but also swimming it out. It has a great action. And my thoughts was the white should stand out through the canes and the Lilly pads. But a green and blue I use most of the time. I use a swim hook for them most of the time in the shallow marsh. When I was cleaning fish they all had little bait fish in them. I took a picture so next time I’ll use a swim bait that’s close to these.

I assume you got there by way of Pearlington?
Yes
