Yeah, I’m really wasn’t planning on fishing today, I’ve been working outside all week and moving and remodeling and had one of those moments where you say f everything I’m going fishing. But I’m also still getting use to what I can and can’t do in my boat.

Before the new creel limit on redfish I seen one charter captain out of Cocodrie kill the bow fishing record for redfish. Can’t release it back and can’t eat it. What was a bragging rights for this captain should have really been a disgrace. Louisiana Sportsman wrote an article on the record. When we stop rewarding this type of behavior we will see change. Regardless of what WLF commission make in regulations the mind set of “keep what you need, throw back the rest” needs to happen.

I hate fishing the HDS! I’ve caught fish on it, its great in when catching on a jig head just isn’t happening, but you can do too much with it too! sometimes it is just throwing it out and waiting for a bite. let the current do all the action. but also reel in your slack if your bait comes back to you, which could mean you need to use more weight. ( the reason I hate it, is because I really haven’t spent the time doing it as much as I should, and its probably because I don’t always keep a drop shot rigged up ready to go. its always the after thought method for me.)

some times the best way to learn a method of fishing is spend a day just fishing one method. BUT pick places where the Method would work BEST. example don’t go to the long rocks and throw a drop shot. go to a rig or bridge piling in 10-40ft of water. or a deep hole off a bend in a bayou or river.

I find white works a lot for me too! Any more details? How many you catch? was it in a community spot? island? Rig? inside the marsh? How was the weather? How was the water clean/Dirty?

St Malo will be a good spot in September and October. It’s a trout highway when they transition back into the marsh. I fish Lena Lagoon and go through the marsh to St. Malo to catch reds and bass during the end of summer and early fall.

Awesome! Last time I went there was still some trout by the dam but not enough to stay. That’s why I didn’t even bother this weekend

This was the first time for me going down the spoil canal and yes your video of you navigating it did help out. The water in MRGO wasn’t bad, I could visually see bait, sheepshead and mullet when close to the rocks. I could see 1 1/2 ft down. We, had two keepers in the boat and then after the dozens of boats arrived, we left. So we left fish to find fish. The rig I fished, I swapped to a 3/8oz jig and treated it like the hwy11 bridge. Left that, fished oyster reefs the first one was 7ft deep. I had 3ft leader on full size Marker 54 under popping corks. Caught throwbacks and 19inch trout. When I got in an area that was muddy looking water, I was catching hardheads. When I returned to the long rocks half the boats were gone. Went back to working on them. They still were close on those rocks,

I think so, good tide today, I lost 3 or 4 legal sized trout at the boat this morning and had a few male undersized trout caught.

Maybe I shouldn’t have posted that sentence, not trying to shun anyone.
