Since late September people have been catching massive shrimp in Lake Ponchartrain on the seawall. I can go out right now and catch 10 lbs easy. I think 2 weeks of strong east wind have pushed them deep into the lake. I saw some at Catherine last week and a friend of mine has been going to catch them every weekend with his family at his camp near Treasure Island so they are here. @Boyce has been seeing shrimp boats stacked on the causeway too. The lake is back baby.

Honestly that’s a solid plan.
I’d keep a popping cork handy for birds in the lake and when you make it to the marsh.
Try the northwest end of Lake Eugenie fishing points for trout if you make it there before 9-10.
I have more luck with jigs near the rigs but HDS for the holes and area immediately around the rig and reefs.
Good luck and looking forward to the report.

***DISCLAIMER: DO NOT LET THIS REPORT DISCOURAGE YOU FROM FISHING THE JUMP FOR TWOUT.***
While I respect the hell out of these guys. They are fresh off a couple crushing defeats delivered by Team Giggalo and this is a rebuilding year for their confidence. Revisit IF:101, specifically Deep Holes.
Keep pushing and tight lines!

So from what I have been hearing is the fish only want jumbo sized shrimp lately.
Typically I’ve only seen that when there is so much shrimp around that they don’t mess around with the typical bait store size.
I’ve also seen reports of people fishing birds in the lake but no trout to be found even though they see the shrimp surfacing.
I think it’s easy pickens for trout in the lake. They’re not in a frenzy. I think they’re chilling on the bottom of the current in a feeding pattern just waiting for their meal to come to them.

Prior experience.
In “theory” the carolina rig allows it to flow in the current giving a natural presentation. Where the dropshot keeps it on the bottom allowing the shrimp/minnow to pop/swim.
I’ll say the standard Lake B/ trestles drop shot will not work. You’ll get bites but no commitment. You could sub out a 2 oz for 1 but when getting to the bottom counts then seconds count.
