The bridge in the bay is a hotspot for sheepshead.

  • Wooden boats are such a beautiful labor of love. I grew up on an old Stauter built boat and as much as I would love to have another I know the work to keep them up is more than I can handle.

    I also restored 2 boats:

    Technical poling skiff

    Walk-around

    &

    Bass Tracker

My father in law has a bowrider similar to your Key West and prior to getting the bass boat I used to slay fish on it. They’re very comfortable.

How do you like that Seafox?

Curious because I almost pulled the trigger on one that had been converted to a tower boat.

Do you want to catch big trout ORRR do you want to catch big trout here?

    There’s a distinct difference IMHO.

I have been on a 2 year tarpon quest that has taken me to south Florida, Belize, Angola, and some questionably far distances in my homemade skiff.

    I will catch a tarpon July 27th, 2025.

    Its a given.

I will be in Belize during the new moon with the best guide in the country.

When I catch that 150 lber I lost last year I will laugh and smile, and post it up here, and frame the pic for my office.

However, when I catch my first Louisiana tarpon, I will cry. I will drag it to shallow water, get measurements, revive it, and call the taxidermist and get my first ever mounted fish.

If you want to catch a big trout you have to go to Laguna Madre where 28″ trout grow on trees.

I have been trying to get a group to make the 10.5 hr drive, get the tacos, and throw big ol corkies while wading in grassy beds behind Padre Island. If you want to go, I’ll drag my skiff this fall.

if you’re trying to catch them here I feel like the best areas to target them is walls (rock and concrete) docks (early AM) and beaches during the spawn.

Big bait helps but I had a buddy catch a 31″ trout on a fluke style bait.

I feel like I’ve hooked several 25+” and lost them trying to flip them (either broke the leader or flipped out of the boat).

Regardless I’ll be cheering you on from the digital sidelines in your quest.

Believe me when I say I know what obession feels like when you have a certain fish on the brain.

Pre-LAFB 1OT Kahle hook at the horn

For sheepshead pinch the tail and rig the hook thru the body.

I’ve never launched there, I’m a Campos guy.

Anytime I run into an altercation on the water I hit them with the ol’

    “Do you know I am?

DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!?

    I’M DEVIN FUCKING DENMAN!!!!”

Also I caught several big trout on a piling @DrillNFill had given up on.

Sometimes it just takes a more skilled angler.

    If you’re invited it’s a potluck, not a potlick.

It wasn’t a banner day but catching “big” trout that far west (in what I assume is very low salinity atleast historically) during the spawn made each one worth triple since I was able to launch 15 minutes from my house and still make my 9AM work call.

    Is this how Chas feels?
