Thanks for reporting. I will never be ok with the leased water thing here but what can you do? Good job landing them in tough conditions. I don’t think I’ll be trying Grand Isle until I see some better reports. It seems like the east side of the river has had more sucess (Venice, Breton, Chandy, etc.) Maybe they’ll be there later this summer. Its sad because I’d love to do a Port Sulphur / Grand Isle loop at some point.

MemberJune 13, 2025 at 1:29 pm in reply to: Safe Rte to Lake P Powerlines from Norco 6-12-2025It wasn’t a banner day but catching “big” trout that far west (in what I assume is very low salinity atleast historically) during the spawn made each one worth triple since I was able to launch 15 minutes from my house and still make my 9AM work call.
Is this how Chas feels?

MemberJune 10, 2025 at 11:17 pm in reply to: Venice Fishing report– June 6, 2025In regards to trout I would stick to beaches, rock jetties, or if you’re gonna fish rigs go to Sandy Point/West Delta. East Bay is a snapper / cobia haven imho.
Mangroves I would say closer to Grand Isle or West Delta. Its a two man sport or quick on the draw game.
Typically you toss cut bait on top and draw them up the water column and you freeline a shrimp or pogey. As soon as that fish eats the wheelman needs to toss the boat in reverse because they dart into the rig. You lose a lot of tackle if you target them specifically. Its not uncommon to go through 50 hooks in a single trip with 2-3 people.
The benefit is this is the same way & locations most people target cobia so its got fringe benefits.

6/16 – 6/20 Dubai
6/20 – 6/22 Fairhope, AL
6/23 – 7/2 Open
7/3 – 7/24 Weeks Bay, AL
7/25 – 7/28 Belize
7/29 – 8/30 Open
I think we could get 4-5 people to throw in and bring 2 boats. 1 night and 2 fishing days, first would be trout & snapper and I could make snapper sushi/ceviche, 2nd could be TT / Mangrove / bull red.
If its an August trip could be some bonus tarpon as well.
$50 – bait
$50 – dinner / breakfast
——–
$400 / 4 = $100/person + fuel
$400/ 5 = $80 /person + fuel
Or daddy warbucks @Devin could shoot this for marketing and call it a business expense since Venice is a gatekept “you need a guide/ aint no hobby baww” mirage for most anglers.
