Bummer – I was more hopeful for you than my red trip on Saturday. Maybe another month or so, and weather will be more consistent, rivers down, setting up better sight fishing opportunities.

Tough trip. No objection to Delacroix plan. I’ll be looking for reds around lake p, lake Catherine, intracoastal today – will try to get a report out tonight in case it may help for tomorrow. Good luck

These topics are well covered in the courses available on this site if you’d like to put the work in yourself, but if you’re just visiting, sounds like hiring a guide again may be your best bet. If you’d like to learn from the guide day 1 and then repeat that pattern on your own, have that discussion with the guide prior to booking.

Jealous of that trip! I have a KML of platforms within ~20miles that I don’t mind sharing – it’s stuff straight from an NOAA chart. Message me your email on here or facebook, and I’ll send if interested. I made it out about 15 miles summer before last and caught a bunch of sharks and one undersized snapper, but really only gave it an hour or two as it was the day I was leaving. I think my weights were too light, and I was using mostly mullet caught inshore – maybe frozen squid would have done better.
Keep is posted! I’ll be heading that way first weekend of June.

Excellent! Glad to hear that reef had a few – I’ve tried it a couple times without luck.

Here’s a comparison I did back in 2021 when I was buying one for what it’s worth. I heard recently that the Simrad GO series is no longer being manufactured, so those remaining are at a discount price. I wound up with the GO9 as they had a sale that brought the price down to on par with other 7” screens – if you can wait, there are savings of a couple hundred to be had by waiting for a sale. I’ve been happy with the GO9 – easy to import waypoints and tracks. Nice having two card slots – one for Standard map and one for your own data – although can be a pain to access on the rear of the unit if you flush mount on a center console. It’s possible to upload your own satellite imagery as well if you spend time on the computer putting it together.
I’d suggest a similar comparison of currently available models will make your preference clear quickly.

What weight jighead were you using? Sure you’re getting to the bottom?
Keep after em!

Plenty of birds working and some shrimp jumping. Only gafftop under birds so far. Definitely needed the ‘stay protected’ plan today, but reds didn’t cooperate today. Will try another area tomorrow. Full report to follow.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Weather looking more challenging than when I originally posted. Will definitely be thinking on plans to stay protected, including plan redfish.
Report to follow after the weekend. Maybe I’ll give some short updates on this thread.

Thanks; will have to check that out next time. Think a bay boat can make it through there? The gaps in the breakwater were a little sketchy for me to want to pass in a bay boat, but there is a spot or two I’d be interested to try in the future from the bay boat.

No worries – I can’t expect you and others to be spending their Friday night on the forum. Saw 12, didn’t catch though unfortunately. Still good to explore. Report to follow.
