I had my boat in the shop for something else and my mechanic noticed that my fuel line in the motor had gotten kinked up. He was surprised that it was running fine. I have no idea how that happened. I’ll eat the hell out of white trout. They punch above their weight which makes them fun to catch

yeah, I got alcohol on my boat. The other thing to keep in mind is that if you have any symptoms such as nausea or diarreah after a cut to go to the ER

Funny you mentioned that because when I was deciding whether or not to fish the power lines, I remembered that a buddy of mine used to fish them 20 years ago. So I asked him about the relish this time of year, and he confirmed that they’re there this time of year, and then he said “be careful on the lake, that wind can kick up real quick on you” After 20 years he remembers that. Something we can’t remind ourselves of enough. I may try to hit them again Wednesday after work if I can. I’ll be driving in from Baton Rouge after a work function and if it’s calm I may grab my buddy and give it a go

Great report, thanks. We all know you meant 7/25, not 12/25. Yeah, the best laid plans get befuddled when that wind kicks up. I think windfinder undershot it a little bit for Saturday’s report too. Read my report for Saturday, I think the power lines on the west side of Lake Pontchartrain might be a good fit for you on calm days because you could be to those in about 10 minutes tops.

I told my buddy we’d go out this Saturday to Port Sulphur again, but may as well try something new. Didn’t kill it out there, but had a couple really nice trout. I’m trying to decide between west lake Pontchartrain power lines and the Lake Salvador rigs. My question is, why would these places be good right now? That water on the west side of the lake must be very low salinity, why would they make their way over there? Seems like there are more plan B’s in Lake Salvador if the fish aren’t at the rigs.

mschultz304MemberAugust 13, 2025 at 7:33 pm in reply to: Power Lines West Lake Pontchartrain 8/2/25No worms at all the filets were great. My father in law and I had the largest ones and when I pulled them off the grill I laughed and said that we’d both have leftovers, but both of ate every last bite. You’d have thought they were redfish

I’m going to do it again this weekend because for this time of year it’s a better payoff:effort ratio. I drive there in 30 minutes and have lines wet 10 minutes after the launch. Maybe we’ll hit some reds this weekend

This is killing me watching him fish in a winter coat!

That’s so funny that you gave me that Red Pass spot, I already had to on my map as a spot to try. A year ago I went deep sea fishing with a guy and he took us out through that bayou, and as we went out I marked that spot as a spot I’d like to try, both because it looked good and because I know I could get there easily. Thanks again!

Yes, thanks. I did start last year introducing myself to Venice and I did the Jump, the mouth of the river, and Bayou Collette. Just didn’t want to start running down the pass yet. I did mark all the openings that had structures blocking them as per Capt. Devin’s map. I love it when the Jump is hitting, you can fill the cooler a little bit and then go run around

Thanks for all this! I like that first route, I can do that with my 18 foot boat. I’ll feel a lot better knowing I’m heading down a proven path

Can’t wait for that river fishing to kick back up. How far out would I have to go into SW pass to get some trout action? I have a 90 Yamaha 2 stroke so I wouldn’t want to run much more than an hour out. I can put an extra 5 gallon gas tank in there with us, I’ve done that before

Funny thing, I started researching lithium batteries and I decided I wanted to do a lot more research before forking out $1000 so I bought 2 standards batteries again. I’m glad you mentioned that about the water level because I never used to check that, and I’ll add that a buddy of mine who works in an auto repair place said to drain about an inch out and fill with this stuff caused Therm Oil. I can’t find anyone who stocks it, but you can order online at Walmart
