Awesome! Thanks for the reply. I’m going to watch that video for sure. I started to try to sight fish, in fact I still have two pairs of glasses, one blue and one amber, in my bag. I never committed to it but I need to. I think once I see a couple and know what to look for, it’ll be easy.

One follow question: Who fishing the canals that go down to like 7-9 feet, do you jig the bottom or fish the column? Like cast from the side of the canal to the middle, and then drag up to the shallower water. Or vice versa? Or do they even sit in those canals?

There’s plenty of grass out there, I’m pumped. I may chase some trout to start the day this weekend and go out to like Black Bay, but definitely doing the Texas rig

Great report, thanks. I almost tried the long rocks but stayed inside and worked like a dog for a couple of reds and a few yellow cats.

I think we all have a friend like that, he wants to fish but it’s more about being on the boat than actually catching fish. It’s tough when the day is a grind

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, nothing substitutes for TOW. And it was tough, tough conditions yesterday, we knew that going in.

No, we didn’t try Bayou Duhe, after Mandeville we wanted to get back to more familiar territory.

We fished a couple of the openings on the south side but didn’t really fish the canals. Not sure what you mean by running against it.

Your report sounds like mine, although I did plan redfish from the start. No clean water anywhere. I was in Delacroix, and I saw tow other boats all day.

What were you throwing in the ponds for those redfish? I tried a white craw to no avail, but I wish I had packed a spoon. The ponds have so much grass in them this time of year. We just threw a jig with plastic and a piece of shrimp on it under a cork after a couple hours, I just got tired of throwing with that wind

I haven’t been out in like two months, wish I could help. I have a 18 foot War Eagle and I’m hoping to get out this weekend, and an it’s easy decision for me, I have to get protection for the wind. I’ll probably do Delacroix because you can always find some protection there.

Where is that rodeo launching from?

I love the planning, I need to start doing that more. I usually go out of Sweetwater but it gets so damn low this time of year and I’m fishing Saturday this weekend and low tide at Shell Beach is 9:30am. I just hate kicking up mud all day long.

I saw Devin’s comment about 4 Horse, and that’s not a tough thing to get to. I like that deep canal on the south west side of it too

That’s what I thought, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t leaving anything on the table in those canals. There’s a couple spots where like to pull out some yellow cats, I can eat those all day.

Let me get a follow up on fishing those ponds when they’re full of grass. Should I be using a gold spoon? The redfish spinner baits with the spoon get all tangled up in the grass. Should I just drop jigs into the clear spots? What about those craws, I started throwing that because those things get through the grass pretty well.

Is these a course that covers that specifically? I remember seeing it touched on.

I was throwing one of those yesterday, didn’t throw it today. Yeah, the wo I caught today were right up on the bank. I think when it’s rough and dirty you have hit them right on top of the head with it

I think, not sure that shrimp are the preferred bait when they’re available. I will say that I started the conversation by asking, “is the reason the trout ar so big because of that increase in size and creel limit a couple years ago?” and he said no, it’s because the brown shrimp are so abundant
