Love catching trout but one of my favorite days ever we just caught 40″ bulls every cast, all day. Sounds like a fun day to me.

What do you need done to your boat? I’m a fabricator/ welder located in Mandeville.

Maybe this is what I need to be doing in summer instead of running the boat 80 miles to catch trout lol. nice bass

After weeks of research I concluded the Lowrance Elite 9 inch with sidescan is the best bang for your buck and I’ve had mine for about a year now and I love it. Very easy to convert Google earth to upload tracks and pins to the gps and the side scan imaging is great. The base maps aren’t great but if you make a good plan on GED then you only need the map for following tracks.

THANK YOU ALL! I did not realize I would get this many responses. Garmin inreach mini it is. Also I did not realize my phone had satellite capabilities. I may get a VHF as well to talk with seatow as they come get me. Devin, I completely understand the excitement of the added danger. I used to go out as far as dead mans island in a 16 foot flat bottom with a 20 year old Yamaha, but I just had my first child and I’m a little more aware of my own mortality now and this also gives me wife some peace of mind as well. Crazy how I went from being away for weeks at a time in maritime security without a thought and now I’m thinking about the dangers of fishing lol

What’s Central Rig? I normally wouldn’t ask for fishing spots but the way you say it it seems like a commonly known spot but I have not heard of it.

Ignoring the birds is probably what set you up for success. I still have a hard timing passing them up lol

Dude thats an amazing day. I’d rather catch 1 trout on topwater over 5 on a cork and you got 17!? And jacks and bullreds are super fun. I don’t keep fish unless I’m planning to have a party so that sounds like great day.

Yeah the none-fun work. I just redid the all wiring on my boat when I got my new trolling motor. Had to buy a damn $80 crimper from Harbor Freight to put lugs on 4 gauge wire. I’ve seen the work you’ve done on Gnartooth so I’m assuming you’ve got it all covered but I have a shop at the house if you need help.

Yeah the good thing about Hopedale is its generally a safe place to run. The marsh is more solid and there aren’t a million old oil wells left behind.

Do not go to delacroix until you do some GED homework. There are a ton of mudflats out there. Luckily before I had a GPS, I had a 16 foot flat boat so push poling off a flat is pretty easy but in a 22 foot fiberglass bay boat, you might end up calling seatow. Go on google earth and look at Pre-katrina imagery. Plan your route, convert it on GPS Babel, and upload them to your GPS. Otherwise just stick with Hopedale. Also get a collapsible push pole if you don’t already have one.

Definitely save the black bay run for saturday unless you want to fish the evening friday. This time of year I just target reds or jacks unless I get pressure from friends to go for trout.
