I would have to agree with the summer statement. Once the temps are steady in the 90’s first thing in the morning. Not only fish early for the bite, but also so you and the rest of your crew don’t burn up in that heat on the water.

I was thinking of trying Belle Pass first. Stay out of that wind.

As for the snapper, the charter on Friday is on a 39-foot Contender, so I think we will be fine.

The rigs I have marked are just from old trips. I’m not sure we’ll make it to those.

As mentioned, we have a whole week and will be able to cover a lot of water. Just sucks with the wind. Maybe I need to make a sacrifice to Poseidon.

Thank you all for the information. @Devin, I will never say “Bycatch” again lol!

I never thought about the fishery’s food, just about them killing unwanted fish. Funny how you understand better when someone truly informs you.

I am currently watching the hearing.

I have a question on this. or more of a statement.

Let me start by saying I am all for increasing regulation for the fishery. especially because most of the Menhaden fishing is controlled by companies from other countries, which use the fish to produce oil products.

I am wondering why we fight so hard to push this industry out further, but not the shrimping boats. From my research, menhaden fishing catches around 37 million pounds of non-targeted fish every year. That is out of 1 billion pounds of menhaden caught in 2024 in Louisiana.

Shrimp boats catch approximately 70 to 100 million pounds of shrimp a year in Louisiana. The Bycatch on these boats is 7 pounds for every one pound of shrimp. That is over 490 million pounds of bycatch.

I understand that shrimping is a major industry that drives the economy here. But how do we regulate them?
