    Bluebird skie

    Air temp: 70-80s

    Water temp: 78

Water clarity : dirty at best

Well to start this off I probably spent way more time down south than I should have. Hind sight is 20/20 and as soon as I saw the dirty water and tress floating by the end of the rocks and in the middle cut we should have hauled butt for cleaner water not to mention having to take a number if you wanted to fish along the rocks there must have been, no joking, 75 boats and from what I saw a bunch of bored people eating lunch and stone faced. We fought until about 1:00 PM fishing plan 1 and came up with one trout and one rat red. Next chapter, I had a couple hours free this morning and that’s when I went for a ride to see if I could find the elusive clean water and I found it. I actually ran this from the Rigolets marina and I knew I could make the trip in about 15-20 mins back straight across , I was on a fact finding mission to see the water as it changed color and clarity. I went to a bunch of different well heads and platforms. If it wasn’t pretty water or what I believe pretty water should look like I kept moving, I was on a mission. I finally stopped at the rig off of Pointe Marchette high the water was really pretty, low and behold I picked up five nice 16-20 inch trout on a 3/8oz jig head and ultraviolet Matrix in about an hour. As soon as I caught the first nice trout a boat pulled on the opposite corner and picked up two where I was trying to move towards thankfully he left after about 15 mins, after that I didn’t see another boat. Time ran out so I headed back in and came away with some nice trout and new understanding of what to look for. I didn’t really know what was meant by clean water until I SAW what clean water looked like when I went to Lake Borgne and saw the pretty green clear water around the rigs off of the east shore.Next weekend I’ll be solo so if the weather holds up I’ll put plan 2 into gear and keep plan 1 for when the MRGO gets better. Thank you again for the help I’ve learned a lot from you and everyone in this community about this area and I’m happy to be a part of it. It’s only going to get better!

Great report! I’m looking forward to learning how to fish this area, no handouts just tweaks. Hopefully we’ll post a good report this weekend!

I’m headed that way at day break. I’ve been watching it too and it looks as if I stay with plan 1 we should have some decent water and hopefully tight lines! Thanks Devin!

Okay, that’s the plan. I wanted to fish this area to get to know it and if it’s crap water I’ll run north, no big deal.

    Thanks Devin

Okay. So I’ve looked at todays imagery and I’ve attached what I came up with. If I’m looking at this correctly then the areas NE of MRGO should also be clean. Just trying to absorb all of the information to be able to make safe assumptions in the future. I know its SWAG at best!

    Hey Devin,

You’re probably right on 1 and 2 we’ll have to see and if covered run and gun to spots which will probably produce.

“Of course, it sounds like you have intel that I do not. If you know fish are in Lake Catherine, specifically in tidelines eating shrimp…well…if I knew that then that would make me more confident fishing Lake Catherine.”

I wish I did have some intel if I did I’d definitely share it with you guys 😉! Just I’ve fished it before and if the shrimp are moving it seems logical that these may be a few good spots but not to let them eat away at time. I sure wanted to fish plan 1 from earlier this week but I hate to run way down there and then I have to run back NE to find clean water. That’s saved for a another day.

Thanks Devin and as always appreciated!

I’ll be fishing out there too. Looking at a couple places but I’m not sure about my first choice of long rocks and rigs in that area with that muddy MODIS shot. Lake P is looking better and sounding better with the reports I’ve seen.

I looked at your seminar on using side scan and sonar. It’s still a little ambiguous when I look at the images since I’m new to the technology I haven’t put a lot of time into since I don’t really know what I’m looking at. It’ll take a little time to get proficient I’m sure.

I need to get the card I’ve been putting it off with GED. This may push me to bite the bullet.

    Thanks WB
