Great intel guys. I’ve fished there in the past couple of month mainly the middle pearl and have been doing well with the reds, bass and some really nice table size blue cats. The trout hadn’t showed up there when I last fished it around the beginning of November but they should be there now. Nice serene area to fish and not get hammered by the flotilla.

Fished the trestles Tuesday PM had a great tidal range and a cold NE light wind. On the way out I was behind the lake master Chas and he went east away from the trestles. I started at the North end thinking the south would be dirtier. N side gin clear S side couldn’t see 6 inches down. Caught a few fish a couple nice specks one was 17 1/2, 5 lb sheepshead and a 4 lb bluecat. Wasn’t fishing for dinner just to pull in a few fish, released all of them. With the S wind maybe the water will be better S, IDK the lake that well just personal observation.

I read an article recently, not sure where, but it said as long as you keep the bass to a minimum it doesn’t affect the fishing. It’s like dropping a paddle or something on the deck or bottom of the boat that scares fish since the lateral line is where they sense vibration etc deep bass. Some people like the solitude of no noise where some like the background noise, just keep the heavy thump out of it. I personally haven’t had any problems catching fish shallow and I keep my radio on constantly from the time I leave the dock, an annoying habit to some but calming to me. Whatever floats your boat and there will be 59 different thoughts on the subject.

I use a lot of the Falcon Coastal Clear Water rods M/F 6.8 to 7.0 with jerk/twitch and swim baits. Lately I’ve been buying Kistler Chromium and Dobyns Kaden series which are I believe a little more sensitive rods and lighter than the Falcons. I bought a Dobyns and at the time they were offering a free reel so I tried the reel and I’m impressed and the reel is $69.00 on sale. I love my Tatulas and Shimanos but I tell you this is a slick reel. Now, how long it’ll hold up I have no idea.
Good Luck

I have mosty have Daiwa Tatulas and a few Shimano curados, love em. Now to the story: I bought a Dobyns rod a couple months ago because I had read good reviews so I bought a Kaden 7’ M-F. What I didn’t know was they were having a sale when you bought a rod they give you a free Maverick reel. I thought okay probably Chinese junk. Let me tell you that’s the smoothest and will cast further than any reel I own 10BB,1 RB even compared to $400.00 Tatulas. I just bought a second one to keep in the boat I believe it was list $99.00 and on sale $69.00 paired with a Falcon Coastal waters 7.2 M-MF . I’ve been loading my reels with Berkley X9 since I watched a video where Suffix 832 was breaking at ~85% of stated poundage, super smooth and -110 % break point great combination less than $300.00. The Maverick is a good reel and won’t break the bank. What do you have to lose at $69.00.
Good Luck

Great report! I’m headed down to Venivce to fish for Bass this Wednesday and Thursday. What kind of baits were y’all throwing for the bass?

This may be a time to rethink the lake: from Gulf Coast Marine forecast for Ponchartrain

Great report! It’s promising to see the fish migrating further up into the lake.
Good Job!

Death grip has the 3/4 and 1 OZ lead heads. Bought some a couple of weeks ago just to have in the box on the days the current is ripping and fishing deep.

Thanks
