A few weeks ago I bought a GoPro Hero 12 for the same reason. I debated between the 2 also but opted for the GoPro since its the most common. I haven’t put it to use yet, but I doubt there are differences that would make or break a fishing video. Especially just starting out.

Mine was giving me trouble before the latest update. I did the update hoping that it would be the cure, but nothing changed unfortunately.

I can’t recall off hand what size the battery i b. It was already in the boat when I bought it from my grandpa last March, and needed to be replaced back then but I kept pushing it off as it was working just fine. I initially planned on replacing the battery during the re-wire but didn’t get to it. I’ll upgrade to a bigger battery and go AGM, I don’t like having to keep up with checking the water in a wet cell battery.

So be careful going down that rabbit hole. I don’t have a wife telling me what I can/can’t have, either. LOL”

And yes, I’m offshore and can’t get to my boat.
First thing I’ll do when I get home is upgrade that battery and see where that gets me. It needs to be done regardless so if it fixes the problem then that’s great too.

No issues on the chart plotter. I did try SideVu but I couldn’t really tell since I haven’t used side imaging much and I can’t recall how feedback looked before I noticed the issue. Thanks for the responses!

I did put a little dielectric grease on the connection to the back of the unit, probably wouldn’t hurt to spray some contact cleaner on it as well. Hoping they just send me a new one and I don’t have to send in this one before they ship, but I doubt that’s how it will work haha. Thanks man!

I don’t have any spare cables or units. The house battery does need to be replaced as its probably close to 4 years old. I planned on replacing when I get home from offshore at the end of the month. I actually did a full re-wire on the boat a few months back, as well as adding an amp, speakers, lights, new bilges & float switches. All of which are on the house battery along with the GPS. It is getting good voltage to the unit, but maybe the extra load has something to do with it, and maybe that could explain the reason why it somewhat works when slowing down to idle after a run? There were a few months in between finishing the re-wire and when I was able to get the boat in the water, so maybe this could be the problem as it never happened before the re-wire.
I know the installation manuals say not to run transducer cables alongside power wire to avoid signal interference, but it was already ran like that before and it worked. (I didn’t mention that to Garmin support). I would imagine that the majority of people don’t abide by that since there typically aren’t multiple options under the deck on where you can run cable from stern to helm, especially in small boats like mine. I guess disconnecting and pulling the transducer cable all the way back out from under the deck and plugging it back into the unit would be worth a shot.
Garmin did say the transducer is still under warranty, so we’ll see what they do. Just trying to get some ideas to try for when I get home so I can get it fixed for a planned trip a few days after I get off.

Lol it happened right after I broke out a thousand doing a complete re-wire and putting sound in of course haha. Hoping it lasts the rest of the year at least then I’ll probably just end up getting a new motor next year sometime. Inside is ate up pretty bad and keeps getting worse, but she’s good for now 👍

Thanks man! PAC was our best option for not getting beat to death in the 20mph+ winds since my buddy and I both have 16ft boats. It was the first time I had been in several years and will probably go back this coming Tuesday.

Yeah! A few days ago I actually copied those pins & routes over to my Dularge GED folder to use for this trip. We originally planned to launch from Jugs to fish that side of Dularge/Dulac, but the day before we went out, Terrebonne Levee & Conservation District closed the majority of the floodgates in the area due to high water levels from all of the south wind lately. The only one they didn’t close was the Falgout Canal flood gate, so we had to change our plans accordingly. We could have made the run across Mechant & Sister Lake but decided to just stay on the west end. Thanks man!
