I didn’t know it was Swolle fest weekend. I’d rather avoid the crowds, but we will just have to deal with it this weekend. At least we will have some good music to listen to while cleaning fish!
Every time I check the wind/wave forecast it seems to be getting better and better.
For the grass, that is the way I see it as well. With as many organisms that live in that grass it has to hold fish. Definitely going to fish it if it’s there.

Thank you for the advice. Yes I have a hand control trolling motor right now. Planning on upgrading in the near future, expensive but seem like they are worth it.
When I was selecting those inside, the wind forecast was a lot higher. Ideally I’ll go to the beaches and outside rocks first. I’ve read a few reports that the grass is thick on the beach around the pass and Elmer’s island right now. When I get down there I’ll see if that is still accurate. Once again thank you.

I must have just not realized what I was looking at on my sonar. I am learning how to read it as well, being I didn’t grow up with anything to that caliber when fishing.
I just ordered an extra power cord so I can sit at my desk and learn to read it and all the functions. Trying to adjust stuff while I’m on the water is too much with everything else going on.
I truly appreciate all of the help and can’t wait to get on the water again. Thinking next trip will be out of shell beach (day trip). Being in Zachary it’s 2.5 hrs one way for me.

Did pretty well.
Tried the beach with Carolina rigs and croakers. Caught a few decent trout and a bunch of catfish. Once the surf got rough we moved inside fishing around the islands. Picked up a few more keeper trout, ton of rat reds, and a few massive sheepshead. Did that both Friday and Saturday. Thank ya for the advice and guidance. Learned a lot and was able to apply what I learned in the 101. Still have a lot to learn.
One thing that bothered me is I tried to find the artificial reef north east of Fort Livingston and could not locate it. I zig zagged that whole area and it was all flat on my sonar.

I have the same Garmin, just the 9” version. Watching Devin’s inshore 101 about Google Earth taught me a lot. (I use it for work, so I was already knowledgeable about it.) LDWF website has all of the artificial reef locations you can download and save in google earth. I think Devin’s student file has them as well.
If you don’t already have Garmin Active Captain, I highly recommend you download it on your phone too. That with Google earth is incredible at locating potential spots. I think the 101 videos refers to Navionics, the active captain is the same thing.
