i will be fishing the four bayou arear this coming weekend with probably a stiff south wind. I’ve had pretty good luck this spring there. The water quality has never been great, at least on the surface.
i can confirm that the birds have produced undersized trout. My big fish all come off of oyster reef on a carolina or drop shot rig. it takes a little patience but you can put a nice box together of quality trout.
Hope this helps

LOTS of rat reds on the Bell Pass rocks. Bring plenty of bait if you are fishing live. I agree with Devin that it’s worth the grind for bigger trout. I will be there as well.

Thanks for the report! My plan for this weekend was to target the shallow rigs away from the crowds.

I’ll be down there this weekend. I haven’t game planned inshore. With the success I’ve had inshore lately I was hoping to go get some snapper if the conditions allow.
I did hear of limits being caught at Independence island. I don’t mark much on sonar there. I guess you just have to trust the coordinates. It covers around 8 acres I believe.
Hackberry was really good to me in the fall pattern, but no luck in the spring pattern yet to speak of, but I haven’t had the best water clarity or tides.
I had some solid honey holes in Leeville. I haven’t done anything since the freeze.
I feel like the high river water has to be pushing trout towards the island. I also considered venturing east to first clear water outside of the mudline. Modis shows it near the Empire canal. Historical images from 2020 are interesting.

Thanks for the report. I will be down there this weekend. I havent heard of many trout being caught so my plan was to hit the sheepshead spawn on the rigs.

I’ll be doing the same thing every chance i get. i just bought a camp on the island a few months ago.
I have a sea Hunt Bx 25. Its good rig to do both in and offshore. i plan on trolling a good bit this year as well.

Great report as usual!
They were still outside last weekend in Hackberry in good numbers and mostly good size trout.
I hit a bunch of dinks in Mud lake on a tide line at the end of the falling tide.
I was curious how fast they were moving inward.

Thanks for the post. This was an area i picked out but have not tried yet.

I am based out of Grand isle but headed up to Myrtle Grove.

I use several different methods, Garmin chartplotter will have some outlined.
LDWF has a lease map, but this can be overwhelming because pretty much every inch of the area is a lease.
Next time you are out there, find the tideline that runs though. It’s pretty easy to spot. It runs along the camps and across other structure. Use your transducer to find the structure changes (ledges). It’ll go from 7 ft to 5 in most cases
You’ll notice the change in color on your bottom machine as well. Note the color difference between mud and shell.
I was doing the same thing last year. Running and gunning trying to find that green water.
I feel like it has to be underneath that merk layer.

For snapper I like to find structure or bottom that gets overlooked. Shipwrecks, pipes, old rigs that still have a pad or hump that you can see on your charts. These have almost no pressure on them. Sharks are less of problem as well. They usually show up right as we are at our limit.
I have caught them as shallow as 35ft of water in WD32, but usually around 100ft depth.
The spots are small but loaded with fish. Have your trolling motor down and ready to spot lock as you idle over.
