Devin, there is a covered boat storage facility that looks to be very well built, right off of LA46. Toca Boat Storage.

I tried getting a spot there about a year ago but there were none available. Haven’t tried since. It may be worth giving them a call – at least get on the list if there is nothing currently open.

Probably going to blow this as a total sonar ignoramus but here we go.

Judging by the depth, and looking at the dark lines on the left side, I’m guessing the cover in that spot is a rig or a series of pilings. That also makes me think salinity is on the higher end, especially considering that I don’t recognize many signs of grass. I also don’t see any signs of fish, which is a strong indication that it’s probably somewhere I would end up with my boat.

No idea how to gauge clarity of water or state. The markings on the floor that look like little holes I assume are a clue as to what type of fish are there.

I’m assuming you already have locations of old weirs in the area? Those are the most unobvious hazard to navigation out there.

The only ones I can see are those marked on the LDWF map of Biloxi Marsh. They aren’t very clear on the map. Does anybody have a more reliable source? The only way I know to work around them is to use GED for routes and carefully zoom in through my lines for them. Obviously posting here for safe routes is also the way to go but was curious if there are any other sources guys on here have leaned on.

I won’t lie. I knew deep down that the hospital wall was a bad call. As you said, its not the time of the year anymore. But my delusions got the best of me, thinking “how convenient and awesome it would be if we hit that spot and found success.” I deserved what I got.

This brings me to a point you have made before here in LAFB. Finding and catching specs isn’t about convenience. Most of the time we have to take the least convenient path to find success. That has been ringing in my head since Sunday. Noted, point taken, lesson learned, moving on.

Now, on the subject of inconvenience and successfully getting on specs and reds: Venice. The message I am getting from you in many of the LAFB fishing reports is clear – Venice is where its at right now and it is an area that, although challenging, can be very rewarding. It isn’t the inconvenience that is keeping me from going. Its caution. I run an 18ft aluminum hull with a very minimal V and an F70. Top end speed is around 35 and big water isn’t its forte. Even if I do extensive homework on GED – am i biting off more than i can chew in Venice with that rig? I could get comfortable working the wagon wheel, but anything farther or on the east side of the river seems out of reach. Maybe not? Send it? Send it with extra caution?

What I really want to try is west Lake P for reds along the power lines but I’m not so sure that will be fun tomorrow especially if the wind shifts and comes more from out of the east.
