    @Boyce @ShooterMcGrabbin

It wasn’t just us!!! This is what’s great about fishing reports: being able to compare notes.

John, great report. What do you think had the trout in a funk?

I also saw a lot of fish at The Jump on the graph, but they just weren’t giving it up.

Interestingly enough, we fished the same day and it was also tough.

What constitutes a good trout report in Hopedale?

Generally the way mapping cards work is like this: you put them into the graph, it automatically detects it and in order to keep using the card you must leave it inserted.

On some graphs you may need to manually select the card.

As for anything more specific than that, I do not know. I do not own or use or have used those specific pieces of equipment you mentioned.

It’s not a bomb. You can poke around the menu to find what you need. That is 99% of what I do and it’s gotten me by the last 20 years. lol

Good job picking out spots and routes that will be protected from the wind. You’re already a step ahead just by doing that.

I think it’s gonna be tough.

I don’t know how familiar you are with flipping canes for bass, but that could be an option.

Also, a big shout out to @DrillNFill for letting us use his boat. Don’t worry bud, we deleted all the tracks off your graph so you won’t know where those trout are. lol jk

That thing is a beast with a 200 Suzuki on the back. An absolute rocket of a bay boat.

@DrillNFill , if your sonar puck is kaput, then I may have one to replace it. Actually, I may be able to get you a RAM mount and some other goodies to upgrade your GPS.

Also, I had no idea @ShooterMcGrabbin was going to be there. He was just hiding in the backseat of TOTS truck under a blanket, like a stowaway. lol

My thoughts as to why the trout were tough:

Well, we did just have that cold front. But when I look at the water temp drop in the river versus that of non-river locations (like Grand Isle….see attached), I’m inclined to believe that didn’t impact the fish as much as one would think.

My gut feeling is that they moved and we just didn’t find them. The one place we did find them was an absolute wretch to fish because it was a nightmare keeping the boat positioned. The swells, wind and current were tough.

I can’t really say what was going on at the other spots because I couldn’t see what was going on in the water column.

Maybe they bit later in the day at The Jump and we missed it. Who knows?

But, if I were to go back anytime soon, I’d definitely try elsewhere. I’d dedicate more time to Pass a Loutre, and even run upriver toward Buras and fish ledges up there. I’d also consider fishing the marshes of Pointe a la Hache. I’d also try West Bay. We did not fish there.

I would also try deep, still water. The docks at The Jump are a good example. Fish somewhere the current isn’t ripping so hard.

Also, bring plenty of extra rigs and jigheads. You will get broke off. If you’re not if you have enough, then get more. More is better.

“when I was burning the lure in after a cast around a 3 foot juvi tarpon followed the bait all the way to the kayak”

That is crazy and a good sign! We used to have a lot more tarpon. They’re still there, just not as easy to come by as in years past (like….a long time ago).

“but I wonder if the biomass of redfish even compares to Venice”

Nowhere close. The locals see to that.

When you were fishing the bottom in the deep stuff, how do you know you were hitting bottom with your lure?

I’m nowhere as handsome as the Kang of Lafitte, but I’ll take what I can get.

Speaking of which, how did y’all do?

ha ha ha ha ha ha

It just looked like someone was zonked out in the back seat. It was 3am, so I took it in stride. Or maybe it was a blowup doll for the HOV lane, I had no idea.

We tried pressure washing the last dozen fishing trips off that boat, but only got the last three off. It was like an archaeological dig of dried fish slime.

Thanks for the heads up, but a report or two would be nice. Thank you!
