Yeah, the lights in Eden Isles and Treasure Isle neighborhoods can be good. The lights in Lakeshore Estates are also worth hitting up.
I think it would be neat to try now, since fish are certainly in the back of Lakeshore with these low water temps. Lots of places you can combat launch down there.

“Luckily capt was already out on the water and had planned to meet me and graciously offered to host me and the raucous bunch that followed.”
That’s why he is the KING!
“Devin’s favorite”
Yeah, I’ll keep those hardbaits now, you don’t need them.”
“and I landed my first slot of the day”
Disgusting.
“Capt was using a half Oz jighead”

“didnt get a single bite on our DSOJ.”
Serves you right.
“Ended the day with 11 reds & 6 trout.”
The KING.
“karma for bringing my kids”
Probably that.
“There wasn’t no fuggin’ banana day 2.”
The KING.

“a fuggin’ banana.”
Who’s to say it wasn’t there for our Venice trip? It is the salt mines for him!

“When we got back to the launch I realized I had lost my hard bait box and dry bag out of the boat.”
I see that Giglio wants to post on Zuckerberg’s website, but not on mine <insert super sad face>
And I can get you some hardbaits, dude. I’ll go through my collection and see what I got.
I gotta jet, but will come back and read the rest off this report. Thank you.

“that there was an option for Sonar On/Off.”
I am kicking myself in the ass so hard for that because I should know that. I actually use that feature when fishing shallow for speckled trout (like 18-24 inches). I should’ve thought to check that. In all fairness, on my graphs the sonar screen will not show if sonar is turned off. So when I saw that there was still a broken-ish, crap image on the screen, I figured it was a hardware failure because I’ve seen that before on my Helix 10. I shoulda thought of that anyway. Too bad, because we really coulda put that to work at that A-spot that we deleted off his Helix.
My guess is that the firmware on his Helix 7 is different. Probably old. lol

You would need to go under the drawbridge. Your boat will not fit under those bridges. Maybe the Hwy 11 bridge, but you’d be cutting it close. I know my T-Top was.
Also, why do you want to go fish those locations in January? Especially with a boat like yours?

I’m confused. Was this fishing trip from February of last year?
Also, I’m pretty sure those guys are driving over from Pearlington. I could be wrong.
-
You did that in some pretty impressive wind, too.
Unstoppable! I love it.
Great work. I love it when you post a fishing report because I’m going to read about a man that is just not taking “no” for an answer. Excellent angling.
I do wonder where the smorgasbord of trout went. Further upriver? Into the marsh to still water? Where dey at, tho?

Man, I was not optimistic for you at all. Not at all. Way to go against the grain and make it happen anyway. Much respect.
I think getting out of Tiger/Grand and off the river was the move to do. I’m guessing it was rough and a wet-ish ride. But worth it.
I’m glad you found them. Sometimes during winter there tends to be a bite later in the day. Old timers told me it was because it gave the fish time to warm up. I’m not so sure about that, because I’ve definitely caught old school limits of 50+ trout first thing in the morning on ridiculously cold mornings after a cold front. But sometimes it’s worth to stay out all day.
Do you think those trout were chewing at the front of PaL all day?

“I know that fish eating before a front is taught in 101, but I don’t believe the pressure is mentioned.”
It’s actually mentioned here beginning at about the 45 minute mark.
I don’t believe that air pressure is a significant factor for good fishing, if at all. One day, when I’m bored, have nothing to do and want to do something more fascinating than watching paint dry I will compile all of my fishing trips and you will see:
- great fishing trips when the pressure is above 30″
- great fishing trips when the pressure is below 30″
- great fishing trips when the pressure is falling or rising above/below 30″
You will also see:
- awful fishing trips when the pressure is above 30″
- awful fishing trips when the pressure is below 30″
- awful fishing trips when the pressure is falling or rising above/below 30″
There’s just so much more that goes into catching a limit of fish and if I thought air pressure was such a deal breaker don’t you think I’d have planned my trips around that? Why do guides still launch in the morning if the air pressure doesn’t fall until some time later in the day? Why does anybody in a fishing tournament bother with the hazards of blastoff when they can eat a burger at the dock and wait for the air pressure to do something?
I’m inclined to think that air pressure merely changes the same time other things happen, like overcast weather (a la Buck Perry).
I also do wonder if air pressure can cause phytoplankton to rise/fall in the water column, causing bait to move and causing fishing to turn on. I think there’s something to that that is worth investigating.
Last, but not least, I do think that we didn’t catch a limit of trout on Tuesday because we did not find them. Fish have tails and they move, even in Venice.
Thanks the stars that @Geremy whacked ’em yesterday, because that’s proof the fish are still down there. We did try PAL, but it was a half-hearted attempt late in the day without a loaded GPS and properly functioning sonar. If I had my boat and the whole day I probably would have found those fish. Much easier said than done, of course.

Not clicking that lol

Okay, well let us know how you do. I hope you catch some trout.
FWIW, when the water is low is the best time to target redfish. They pile up and are much easier to get to. Grand Lake can be good after a hard N or NW wind.
Good luck!
Also, if I were you with a boat like that, I’d get down to Venice while the river is still low. And I’d hit the marsh in Pointe a la Hache/southern Delacroix once it does come up.

Yeah, you’re gonna have to let me know when you’re gonna be at a launch somewheres and I can meet you there incognito.

“I really wish I could have fished Wednesday when the pressure was below 30.2 and dropping to 29.8 later in the afternoon to test this theory.”
I wish you could have, too. It is hard testing anything because there are no real controls in fishing, as things are constantly changing. One of the annoying things I find about the sport: you’re shooting a moving target.
