It makes me very happy to know you guys went out there and had fun catching trout. I see that you followed the Lake Decade Standard Operating Procedure LOL
Also, thank you for taking time to post a report. Many people take and don’t give, and it’s nice to know my report helped someone. So getting that feedback is wonderful.
@dannonc89 forget Venice, go to Dularge and drift Lake Decade!!!!!

“My skeg took some damage”
If that thing was in great condition before then I’m shocked. Now it’s just another south Louisiana skeg. lol
“The water is always shockingly clear back there and great when conditions are tough.”
That’s great intel.
I fished that day as well, and it took some moving around to find them. I eventually found them at a spot that may as well have been designed for post-cold front fishing, so that’s that (The Wall). Now I’m not sure where to go around Lafitte to find something like that, but you tried and now you have the experience.
Great report, thanks for posting it!

When you said you didn’t go to Dularge and then the fog was non existent, I got worried that you had a tough day. But you didn’t!!
Was that your first time to Lafitte? You’re certainly not a Lafitte regular?
That’s an excellent day of fishing, great report! Thank you for posting it!

I’m just trying to be helpful and bring something important to light, as many folks don’t talk about it.
I was able to fish Dularge and Venice back to back, both all day on the water, towing there and back each way. I’ll admit that last night I was ready to get something to eat and go to bed, but I had to talk myself out of fishing today.
That’s good stamina, and I have that because I work out, eat decent, sauna, cold plunge, etc.
It really is as simple as avoiding the double-fried oreos and daiquiris at Mardi Gras. Maybe just ditch breakfast and trade that bag of Zapps for an apple.
I know when I’m older I want to be jacking trout in the face, not sitting out because I don’t have the energy or whatever. I’m only 39, and already I have fishing buddies who want to call it quits before lunch.
Just something to think about.

That’s because I left them whenever I found fish were there. I also have three new routes. That right there is golden, and was only possible because I didn’t turn in after catching a limit, I kept going while the conditions were good.
Long term success!
If I had stayed at those spots where I found speckled trout who knows how many I would have caught. Same for reds and especially those white trout. I could’ve sunk the boat with those!

Yeah, phones are fking stoopid. Apps are easy for companies to make as welll as add paid features to them and they are more marketable because everyone is pretty much required to have on. That’s why there are so many apps for things, not because apps and phones are so great.
Pro Tip: your life will become astronomically easier if you use a desktop computer for everything then keep a phone what it was intended for: texting and calling and, every now and then, on the go data needs.
I could not imagine making one of my YouTube videos on a phone. I’d rather shoot myself.

I have mad respect for that. Excellent work doing the thing. I know it feels good to catch ’em some place new. Do Lake Decade next! Hopefully the fog plays nice.

AdministratorDecember 18, 2024 at 7:01 pm in reply to: 12-17-24 Venice Specks, Reds, Sheeps & MoreI would go optimistically, but fully expecting it could be a tough day. I’ll explain why:
First, anytime there’s a big change in weather (like this cold front) that tends to shake things up. I like to see things remain steady. But that really applies more to the marsh and less to the river.
Second, the river is constantly moving. It just doesn’t change in clarity and temp like the marsh does. So, for that reason I think you could be good. It’s a stable place that fish stack up in.
Third, the river is coming up, but will be at 3ft Sunday. Five feet is when the river fishing craps the bed. I think you could be good.
Lastly, the tide sucks. It’s less than a foot, but it is falling first thing in the morning.
So, there are things working for you and against you.
I do think you could have luck in The Jump, but if you’re asking me to guarantee you a great fishing trip, then I cannot do that.
Why Venice? Why not go to Dularge? Isn’t that way closer? Did you see my report for Lake Decade?

Well thank you, that’s very kind. I appreciate that.
With this cold blast coming up, maybe it could put trout in your back yard.
I don’t know how familiar you are with trolling, but it’s a great method for catching winter fish back there.

Tell your buddy to suck it up and GO TOMORROW lol
Tomorrow is going to be about perfect, I’m not sure about Sunday. It could be good. After that, the river is coming up, do not delay a minute after that.
I just got home, I’m racking out. Talk some sense into your buddy.
