“My plan was to fish the bottom of the staircase”
It makes me so happy to see folks using the lingo. You’ve been doing this for awhile, it just doesn’t get old for me.
“I figured that fishing as many drains as possible that dumped into the ICW would be our best chance at success.”
Hell yes it is.
“I also figured that anywhere with rocks at the mouth of the bayou dumping into the ICW would be ideal.”
*agreement intensifies
“we were able to catch and release 46 more slot redfish in this spot”
MIND BLOWN
You did it! The code’s been cracked. Wham, bam, thank you ma’am. Holy smokes, that’s a Jubilee in a boat if I’ve ever heard of one. That’s good. Real good.
“see if some reds may be on a big shoreline”
It’s that lingo again.
“I think this may have been some Speckled Trout”
It most certainly was. I keep an SD card in my Helix and hold the “mark” button to take a screenshot that’s put as a .png on the SD card. You already knew that, I’m just posting it here for others who are reading and may not know.
“The most boats I saw were in the Geohagen (shocker)”
Maybe they whacked ’em. Maybe not. Either way, I bet most boats there were just trying known spots rather than moving and fishing the conditions.

You are definitely in the right place. Thank you so much for posting an intro. Be sure to utilize this group and, above all, take time to soak in what I’ve put into 101. IF101 is the water, should you choose to drink. Yes, getting through it is work, but nowhere as much work as I put into it, nevermind the years learning, testing and succesfully applying that knowledge. There’s the hard way and the less-hard way. It’s up to you. The folks who whack the daylights out of the fish tend to be those who’ve taken their time to learn and apply themselves. This Community is icing to 101’s cake. Use both and you will get what you’re looking for.
Thank you for posting an intro!

Great report! Man, if you went again today you would smoke them. No doubt. You already figured out where not to go. I wish I was able to make the trip, but alas I cannot. Thank you for posting!

Thank you for letting us know.

Well, if I had to throw in some spring/summer ideas, I would look hard at all the bayous feeding into East Bay by the mouth of the River. I’d look hard at the rigs there, as well as the beaches and rock piles. I think you can get some real hammers out that way. This all depends on the River and how high she is, of course. I think you can find something down there that pretty much no one else knows about. Time, distance and difficulty of navigation keep folks away.

Welcome to the Community! You’re located in a pretty good spot. I bet the Bypass is on fire right now.
Thanks for posting an intro!

Good luck! I hope you’re doing well out there.

It’s proof that TOW and self-application are the final ingredients.
Man, even this morning I’m looking at this report with a blown mind. Great stuff. It’s good to know that a trip like that can still happen.

Because they’re tougher than the rest.

At first glance it appears to use community-sourced data, like Sonar Chart. It may even use the same data. How, I don’t know. I would need to thumb through the site. But that looks like a great resource at surface level and I’ve already bookmarked it to that end.
Thank you for sharing this!

Sunday you could probably do something legit in the marsh away from the community holes. South side of the Rock Dam is recommended as well.
You’re gonna have to go to know, or risk missing out. If you can go, then go.

Oh my goodness, that’s a good smattering of fish. I hate to see it. Breaks my heart. Those fish should be dunking corks and making more trout, not dead on the shore!
