When I first started fishing Hopedale, years ago, I had a 14ft flat with a 25 Yamaha, and I would fish those first three ponds off of the spoil canal all the time. There were many days that I would come to the dock with a decent box of mixed reds, specks, flounder and sheepshead while watching many guys in the big bay boats coming from the outer bays with nothing. I don’t think I ever skunked fishing those ponds. Since I have had my big boat, I have never fishing those ponds again, and I have, on a number of trips, come back from long runs, looking at those ponds, wishing I would had just fished right there and taken the sure thing.😔

Tried to get out after the storm. I thought for sure it would lay down. My wife when with me and I promised it it was rough l wouldn’t make her stay out in it. Well, I’d say 2 to 3 footers and the wind was steadily getting worse. I felt two hits. Maybe I could have toughed it out by myself, but happy to be on my way for afternoon cocktails in Covington with my wife. Till next week. It can’t be bad every Monday and Tuesday. I mostly fish alone so if anyone wants to jump aboard, I don’t mind company. I’ll try to post when I’m going.

I really miss fishing the west side. Lafitte holds a lot of sentiment to me. We used to stay at Victoria inn for my birthday every year. (When it was opened). I quit going when it got wiped out. I was looking and there is another bed and breakfast that rebuilt on the property. Maybe we will check them out soon. I sure would like to go back and see what it looks like. According to GMD, a lot of land is gone. Thanks for your in depth reports on that area.

Sitting on my porch at 830 am. Dark as night and whirling winds. Supposed to clear out by ten with clearing skies and 6-7 out of the sw. Gonna hit the Causeway after it clears. All hooked up and ready to roll.

I use to carry a bottle of iodine with me when I use to raise crab traps. I would pour that stuff on me.

I didn’t go. I replaced my trailer winch and cut grass today. I have just under six acres to cut, so by the time I finished, I let the intrusive thoughts enter. That and the trees on my property were whipping every which way. So, I default to members to not fight it. I will go next week. Looks like the outside is gonna be killer this year.

My dad used to send me in the boat to go buy his beer and cigs at Charlie Hardisons. I think I was 12.

I sure did. Winds are gonna be screaming. Tides should be thrown out the window. Should be a challenge for men. No mosquitoes, gnats, sandflies, or horse flies. I’m not guaranteeing fish, but I have done well in these conditions. (A long time ago when I fished a whole lot more)

I remember dad popping the top off of Miller ponies on the screen porch of our camp in Fourchon after shrimping all day. The 80s were the best times.

They will never see a red cent of my money. I grew up fishing Fourchon and basically lived at our camp there in the 80s. Political interests that were beyond my comprehension back then forced my dad to sell. Years later I went back and started looking around and thinking I might try to start reliving some of those childhood memories. One day, we were invited to a party at one of my wife’s coworkers camp on the island. We had a great time and decided to take a ride to look at properties that were for sale in the area. While looking, we were pulled over by Grand Isles most notorious, and I almost wound up in jail that day. 38 in a 35 and then he said it was 38 in a 25. We were literally parked next to the speed limit sign. Anyway, I swore I would never grace that $h%thole again. I am quite aware of the tactics used in Golden Meadow and Grand Isle for speed traps and that is why I was extremely cognisant of my speed. It’s a longer story, but needless to say anymore, I won’t be needing to go that way and pay their extortion toll.

100 dollar response to a 2 dollar question there. Thanks. I will take option 1. One day I will get over to Venice, but Tuesday isn’t the day for that. When I go learn Venice, it will be with determination and ample time. I saw in one of your posts, you have been presented with a unique employment opportunity and that is sort of where I am right now. This was supposed to be the year I really got back into fishing hardcore, but an opportunity at work came up and it’s a game changer for my family. It won’t last forever, but I’m going to ride this pony off the cliff. When it’s over, I should be able to fish whenever and wherever I want. Until then, a lot of sacrifice. I appreciate your help. If the weather lets me get out, I will hopefully post a successful report and have a video.

Of course I looked at the weather……for Folsom. Dammit.Well, unless that changes, which it may, no way outside. Thanks for keeping me straight. I always make that mistake of looking at the weather forecast for where I live. Still have a lot of time. Things may change.
