I think you are allowed to fish there but in doing so I don’t think you are allowed to impede the passage of any other vessel navigating within the channel. A.K.A. A situation where a large ship can only stay in the deep part of the channel and you are fishing the deep navigable water of the channel impeding their progress. Or impeding traffic if ships cant pass each other or overtake each other. Unless their is a local restriction I don’t think there is a complete prohibition in all circumstances but I could be wrong.

Devin,
I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post (and at length). I will mostly move to plan redfish and see if I can’t put a box together. I have really enjoyed your courses. I have some spots mapped to go south of sister lake for trout. I don’t see how I can help myself and not at least try for some trout. Maybe the stars will align and I will be able to find some. Worst case scenario it will be a good scouting trip. I have been doing some fishing this summer in Big Lagoon (east of Pensacola) and Steinhatchee. So by those standards a bad day in Lousiana should exceed those locations.

Yes, it’s mainly what I have previously focused on.

Great report. I will be down in your stomping ground (Dularge and South) October 9-11 and will let you know if I get into anything (or not). Keep up the good work, I have read some of your posts and you are putting in the time on the water and burning the gas. It will for sure pay off, we only get one spin on this rock so might as well see as much of it while you can. I made a post yesterday about my plan in the area, feel free to use any of it you find valuable, full disclaimer if the spots suck.

Thanks for the input. I’m not opposed to launching further south being either Delacroix or Venice. I have fished some of the area between Delacroix and Hopedale previously. One of the things that makes me cautious is the private land and postings that I remember south of Hopedale towards Delacroix. My assumption is that private land might not be as big an issue if you go south of Delacroix. I have also fished Venice but mainly offshore. I did stay at Port Eads a few times and it was really cool prior to South Pass silting in (a lot of money was spent on that marina). All that to say I’m more than open to going out of Delacroix or Venice I just don’t want to run into a bunch of issues with private land and from GED it is hard if not impossible to distinguish the private land. I’m from out of state and the whole “private marsh” thing is not something I want to get into a confrontation about while I’m fishing. Most people say “its really for duck hunting, etc.”, don’t go during November for duck season. It just seems like something I want to avoid or limit. There is enough things to deal with without dealing with a pissed off landowner/lessee. Most of my GED planning so far has been running out of shell beach so I can pivot that if advisable. My assumption is that there will be little to no issues with private land out of Venice however the navigation/river traffic would be more of an obstacle. Delacroix will be more private land issues depending where you go but that could be a completely wrong assumption if you go south. I have mapped the channel to Petit Lake from the 2005 GED maps so the initial run south out of Delacroix seems doable with that information. I do know that without this site I would have been screwed by not knowing information like that and knowing the importance of looking at the changes in the Marsh especially in areas with large marsh degradation due to hurricanes. I’m not saying I won’t blow up a motor but without the help of this site I think Vegas would have my odds at 100%.

Thanks guys for the welcome. Noted: Redfish are for Ronnies, unless your stacking limits of trout don’t even come back to the launch. All excellent advice. I’ll make sure my lights work so I can come back to the marina in the cover of darkness and shame if things don’t go well.
