Just a thought, an easy spot to access that should be protected from the wind tomorrow is the east side of Lake Salvador. Between the breakers and the shoreline I’ve consistently found redfish the last couple of weeks. I’ve hesitated to post about this because there’s always a lot of other boats out there so I figured it’s no secret. There’s a free launch nearby too, Franks Place. Mind the bloated decapitated alligator nearby! Action shuts down by 8am. Gold spoon worked best for me!

I know we’re all waiting patiently for the trout to return but sometimes it feels like we’re waiting for water to boil, any day sure! In the meantime I’ve been targeting reds and while I haven’t fished this area in a few months I can say my best results come from finding areas with seagrass and very early in the morning. 5:30 is smart, wish I could tell you where to find the seagrass. Also I dunno your draft but those redfish markers are in some shallow spots so be mindful. I found a chart from 2016 but it’s consistent with my experience…

I’ve been under bridge number 2 in the winter when the tide was low but had plenty clearance in my Jon boat. It was probably last February, there was some construction going on there but no issue with navigation for me

Beshel is another area that really intrigues me that I haven’t visited. I know that marina gets me near the action but from GE so much of that area looks really skinny. I’m running without GPS so I can’t rely on exact coordinates to stay safe, maybe with a trolling motor and <1′ draft I’d be fine.
No doubt where the Mardi Gras pass starts to clean up it gets good!
Thanks Captain!

What a great read! I have a trip in mind to Port St Joe in a month or so to meet up with some family, now I wanna bring my 15′ with my wee Yamaha on the back

Those poles look like works of art, not just pragmatic! I’ll definitely consider a purchase in the near future.
I was recently given (3x) 10′ fiberglass rebar rods that are skinny, light weight and will never rust. I was planning on taking one and making one end a cajun anchor and adding a ‘duck-foot’ to the other end for the skinny stuff, but I can see from your photo that you just carry both, maybe that’s the way to go

LOL I know that corner of the Biloxi Marsh well from my super noob days when I first got a boat this past January but haven’t been back since the trout disappeared. Does seagrass grow there in the summer, you think it’s active this time of year??
So much to explore, so little time!

LOL it was 8/01 actually, some crazy autocorrect maybe?! I read your report earlier and was intrigued, I’m right by the lake in New Orleans so I’m always drawn to Lake P. Had another scare on the lake about a month ago when winds picked up quickly, I made it back to the Westend dock and read the next day that two people drowned from boats the night before. Mother Nature is real! Anyway, I will continue tracking conditions and find the ones you left behind soon!

Hope your trip worked out, Frank’s Launch was easy, no other boats/trailers plus it was free. I’m gonna post my experience on the report page

Thanks for the tips and blessing, I’ll report back in a couple of days
