I need to have the bunk supports replaced on my trailer and I am dreading that for this reason. That and I am a little uneasy about having the boat fork-lifted off the trailer. I need to do it soon before it starts to warm back up though.

I use the hose port at the base of the power head. I thought that was the preferred method…? I dont run it on that but I use that flush it after every trip. What is the difference on one vs the other?

Last outing the starting/house batteries started acting funny. They had a little age on them, so 2 new batteries. On the way home from that trip a bearing went bad and took out the axle. That turned into two new axles, hubs, springs and all the hardware.

I have had that thought as well when the trolling motor kicks up mud or starts sucking air. Power poles work great for this kind of fishing. But having only one power pole puts you at the mercy of the tide and wind direction, so it takes a little thought on boat position. You could try a spud pole or a cajun anchor to see if that makes a difference as far as bite ratio. That would test the theory without a whole lot of investment.

On weekends like this where it may or may not rain, I will make a plan according to the forecasted wind. I’ll keep an eye on the weather everyday before and call the trip off last minute if needed. I have woke up the morning of a trip to check weather and go back to bed if it doesnt play out. On the other hand, I have called off trips because of forecasted weather only to find out that the weather never came and I should have went.

Im coming out of Baton Rouge and limited time to be on the water tomorrow. Would love a trip to Venice but tomorrow wont be that trip. Rigolets/Borgne/Lake Catherine is the closest trip for me and I am bound and determined to learn that area. Good luck to whoever else goes this weekend.

The trips with family are the ones I barely get to do any fishing myself , but they are always the best trips.

I am still trying to learn the sonar side of my electronics. I have an older unit without the side scan. So I am not much help there. GPS is a must and I have found that following the tracks in and out of an area very helpful. Also being able to plan out spots on the computer and upload spots from GED a lot easier and faster than trying to do it on my phone. I do have a tolling motor with spot lock. If you go that direction, make sure you get one that is bigger (length and power wise) than the minimum you think you need. I fished a couple weeks ago in a buddy’s boat that was having trouble with the trolling motor making it unusable. Even though we had and used the anchor, it limited us to where we were able to fish. Some of the deeper passes where the current was moving fast, the anchor wouldnt catch. Other places being on anchor would put us in an awkward position for the spot. Not much help one way or the other, but a couple points to keep in mind when deciding.

In GED, save your spots in a folder. Click on that folder and click, File, Save, Save Place As… When the save file popup comes up, change to type to Kml. I use GPSVisualizer.com. Upload your file and choose output format as a GPX file. Save that GPX file to an SD card. Insert card into your Garmin and it should prompt several options. Choose to merge from file to import. Other options may erase your previous spots already loaded in your Garmin.

I went through all of the same questions. I took me a while to settle down on one. I started looking for an 18′ aluminum side console. Wound up with a 24′ bay boat with a top. Where I wanted to fish was a lot of open bays and and crossing open water and most trips out include kids. I have a tendency to stay out longer than I should from time to time when the weather/wind is picking up or the weather changes on the days I am available to fish. It can be a handful if you fish alone much but its doable. Thats why I wound up with a high sided bay boat. Its not much of a marsh boat but it is good at what it is good at.
