Love this. Gives me hope and encouragement. I would love to get to Venice this weekend but man the 4 1/2 hr drive is a lot. Things have to line up perfect for me. Wish I would’ve hit the beaches when I was there weekend before last, but late in the day when I got there, and already quite a few boats so just went to the rigs.

Some interesting info, i was listening to a podcast with the Carter brothers where they said they have never whooped up on trout at East bay rigs, and they dont know why either. Makes me wonder if the depth of them just doesn’t set up for trout how they like? May not waste my time with them again when I go back.

Awesome report, definitely gonna plan a trip in the near future. Calm summer days and lower river are hopefully in the near future. Make for some awesome trout fishing in the mornings and would love to venture out for snapper after. Do ya’ll target any mangroves?

Somewhat of a conundrum for sure. I know there was no tide movement so I’m not completely ruling it out for future trips. I do know that east Timbalier bay is super shallow, and no real highways it seems like for trout to travel out? Not unless you’re further west or east close to Fourchon on the peninsula. Just a thought. I should upload a map of my thoughts on it to explain it better.

The 2420 is an extremely capable and solid rig. My buddy just bought one with a newer Yamaha 300 and we took it out in March on big lake. That. Thing. Rips. And it eats chop like it’s nothing. We were cruising at ~40 mph in 15-20 mph sw winds. It was not the smoothest ride but by no means was it uncomfortable. For me, as much as I fish by myself not sure I can justify that kind of boat. Why I’m looking more into the 21’ frontier, honestly the more I look at them the more I’m obsessed…

If I could get a good deal on an x21 or x23 bay I might go back but it’d have to have warranty. The hull I have was never transferred. Lot of things I learned not to do again with this boat. I really like the Frontier 2104 but for the price I would almost rather find a good condition 10 year old blackjack 224. Maybe look into a haynie or blazer bay. Gotta have max hp on the back for the boat though. Maybe a 250 sho with a Nizpro flash…curious what you end up going with for the bay boat when you pull the trigger!

Gotcha, was just making sure I wasn’t missing something, thought maybe my computer was acting up and trying to open the same file.

Launching from Fourchon in the morning and I probably wont make it that far west tomorrow but hopefully will hit a few of the rigs by timbalier/caillou to check em out.

Got it. This is identical to the one Devin posted above, is this from him as well?

Preciate the info, it does look good. I need to add a couple routes and mark all the rigs on the north side of Timbalier. Not sure I’ll even make it that far west but just in case.

Appreciate it Devin, going to overlay this with what I have and check it out.

I am in grand isle for the weekend and brought the boat, possibly going to revisit my Timbalier plan and launch out of Fourchon tomorrow. Would you prefer I make a new pretrip planning post? Not sure I really need one, got some decent feedback from the previous GI/Fourchon post and feel like I have a pretty solid plan. Gonna stick with the essentially the same plan in that post. Saturday I am stuck fishing the pipeliners rodeo with some clients. Water looks right by barataria pass but definitely worse the further east you go.

    PF – Platform

WH – Wellhead – just like to differentiate that these are smaller than the “PF” Platforms. Think yall call em chair wells too?

    TL – Tideline

*Also will try to get a better screenshot tomorrow. Can’t get snip to work on this old laptop. Bout to take this thing in to get it worked on by someone who knows what they’re doing.

Was really planning to go this weekend until the forecast changed friday and called it off, then last night and this mornng saw it looked better for fishing today. But I didnt try it and trying to make sure the post is geared toward a future trip. It was a clusterball post this morning before I headed to church, and I apologize. Did it off my phone since my computer has been updating non-stop it seems like. Edited the post and hopefully I cleared things up. Meant to post this earlier in the week just too much going on with a bid being dropped in my lap last week at work. Also had to leave my work computer at the office for updates so trying to work off this slow as hell POS dell i revived from highschool days. Miraculously got GED and Huminbird PC installed. Took forever but I should be able to work with this computer now.

I target mangroves when I go to the W.D. rigs out of Empire, havent tried for snapper anywhere else. It’s always by myself and you’re right it is preferred to have a 2-man team, as well as gaffing cobia. Thats a whole nother ball game trying to gaff one of them by yourself🤣 you know you don’t go far when your mangroves are bigger than your reds hahaha

My buddy and his buddy (i know, scary phrase) put 20ish fish in the box on Saturday out of coco. Not sure of their fishing knowledge or how salty of dogs they are as i havent fished with those guys. But being they fish a few times a year (maybe), that gives me hope that I can find them if I go. I know they aren’t hard at it throughout the year like a lot of guys I know of in LAFB elite are!
