I don’t think it’s anything abnormal, it’s still relatively cool waters, oxygen levels should be good with all the wind we have had, the fish should remain active longer. Combine that with the fact that the fishes internal clocks are telling them to build up for the migration/ spawn and the bite should be good.
What I’ve personally experienced this spring has been that when I find the fish, the bite is strong. Lots of fish breaking their lips to free themselves. But the fish have generally seemed to be coming through in small groups. Hit 4-5 fish then have to move or wait to get another bite. Thats what I’ve been finding a lot of

Jelly. I wanna run out there if you want a partner lol

Fished the long rocks on the 23rd. It was super muddy with a bunch of floating trees…The further out i went, the worst it got. I am assuming it was all coming from the mouth of the river.

Long rocks are slightly north east of your arrow, but yeah.

Thanks for the report. I got a return on a tagged fish from over there back in march, which is typically when i thought most of those fish left. I guess im surprised the fish are still over there.

@WestbankJosh here i am being all vague with locations haha
Why 0 sea turtles? Did you recently have an encounter?

@Devin thats a myth. Mosquitos and gnats survive sub zero temps in alaska.
For mosquitos, OFF! works best for me. For gnats, amber romance or marsh romance.
Honestly though, i cover up. Even with no bugs, i dont like getting blasted by the sun so i cover up 100% of the time.

If that is the point i think it is ( by like christmas camp lake** something like that***) in the biloxi marsh, its 100% oysters. Fishing that shore line every cast i was snagging oysters.

It is the spot im thinking of. 100% oysters. Should be getting good over there soon, falling tide is needed.

Damn! I had a friend take a charter today, they did well also… I was going to go today but the weather man is a friggin liar!
I’m planning on fishing tomorrow. I’ve had my butt kicked in lake p so many times fishing the trestles, but something tells me it might be worth a trip

Haha right. I’ve been trying every winter in the mrgo, freezing my butt off for anything I catch over 20”. 26” is big for any state

haha thats funny. I didnt see that report i gotta see that.

Oh and the double rig… I think one reason it was working so well that day is that when throwing a single jig, every cast it had dead weeds… By throwing a staggered double, the top jig was always clear… Then id pick up the second fish just reeling slow…
I saw Todd Mason (and you also) use a heavy double rig fishing the jump. it just makes sense to me… A heavy dropshot is already wonky to cast (having two line ends), why not make the sinker be a lure and possibly catch two lol

Yeah i guess your right… I guess i mean i wasn’t fishing my own plan lol. I know fishing with josh has opened my eyes to the benefit of an angler network. In all my previous years my only network has been reading reports, and grinding. I have a few fishing buddies that id occasionally bounce ideas off of, like your buddy Capt. Adam Shields… He would point me in the right direction when i was just lost (multiple bad trips in a row). But other than that, it was lots of all day trips solo fishing different areas and trying different things. But yeah, i’m just starting to build my network, and it definitely helps.
Something I’m noticing though is that even when someone says “go here, at this time, use technique, etc. etc.” 99.9% of the time it just doesn’t always work out the same way. When i discovered my love for the MRGO winter jigging, it was because Adam had sent me that way because he caught like a million sheepshead the day prior… I went and caught zero sheepshead but stubbled across the trout bite. And have expanded on that experience every winter since…
I try to remember the areas we fish are EXTREMELY vast in comparison when your tossing a 3″ paddle tail in 10′ of water, only covering 50 yards of water a cast; Trying to hit a unseen MOVING target that could be as small as a few feet in diameter. Its amazing that we catch as much as we do! lol
