Update: 01/23/25, they are waiting on the parts still. They ordered the parts on the 16th. The parts are stuck in Georgia. The insane thing is I could’ve ordered the parts myself, save $50, and had them to my door in less than 72hrs. Then after all this, I have spider cracks in my hull I need to have looked at, but I know the boat will be gone for months doing that.
Seriously… I’m becoming depressed over here.
All this just reminds me of why I need to buy a little flat boat. The ones on marketplace have come down a lot in the last 2 years… When I was looking in ‘23, people wanted 10k for a 14’ flat boat with 5hp motor. I’ve seen some reasonable deals recently. I’ve been saying it for the last 2 years, a small flat boat that I can fish some rivers, ponds, and unfamiliar inshore marshes would be awesome.
Like each spring I take the family camping, and a lot of the camps have ponds or small lakes that allow boats but nothing over like 10hp or whatever. I struggle with the concept of owning more stuff though. I currently have 2 motorcycles that i haven’t ridden since I bought my boat 5 years ago, and now that I keep my boat at home, I’ll have 2 boats to store. I’m thinking I could get a 14’ and keep in my garage… time will tell

@Devin when i fished venice, i legit had the pelicans snapping at the back of my legs… Id shoe them away, by the time i picked back up the knife, they were back. One of the dudes at the marina came out and sprayed them with hose… poor pelicans were shivering lol They are super annoying this time of year

I have asked LDWF if they are still planning on stocking with the freeze, but no response. Being boatless, i plan on trying that again this year. Just for the novelty of it.

Not really a related story , but its one of very few fond memories i have of fishing with my dad….
That canal that runs up to the power plant. My uncle used to work there, and somehow got us permission to fish from that dock. Well my dad took me and my brother to fish there, and after a long morning of nothing, i was just hanging my lure over the side of the dock into the water, walking back and forth dragging it… My dad was like ” boy knock it off, you arent going to catch anything fishing like that!” No sooner did he finishing speaking when, bam, i caught a nice sized red fish! From that day forward anytime we went fishing, id question his advice, which i’m sure drove him nuts! He wasn’t really into fishing the way i was. In fact aside from fishing from a rental camp’s pier, that is the only time i ever caught fish with him lol.
Dont know why im sharing that story… i guess because every time i see that canal i think… ” i showed him!” haha

I’ve only inched back there, maybe fishing 50 yards past the point by NASA. Did you have someone tell you something? Id imagine as long as you aren’t right up on their docks, they wouldn’t say anything. But i could be wrong. If they did tell me something id just move along. The times i’ve fished there, i didn’t find all that much. But certainly that can change, day to day, year to year.

The snow has been wild… I love it. I hope we get it every year (minus the fish kill part)

Yeah that makes sense as to why they seem to have a back log. I wish pier21 in kenner was a Yamaha shop, they did my steering in like 2 days from drop off to pick up. I think that’s because they don’t sell boats. I mean you know the dealers have to prioritize rigging new boats over fixing other boats…

Thanks

Man in 5 years of owning this boat and trailer, the only thing i haven’t had to replace was axles, winch and frame. It’s unreal.

The sad part of being without my boat, is the winter is MY TIME! lol i love winter fishing… That’s why this is frustrating…

I remember back a few years ago they had parish reps draft letters to corp of engineers to dynamite the dam…. The same group of people would then sue the government when they flooded… but we cant just accept change.
