  • Im clearly late for my comments to be helpful for pre planning, but for future trips. On the section you have running to bayou B, all that shoreline can be great. Some of my best trips in lake borgne have been fishing the shoreline, and entrances to bayous directly off the lake, especially for trout. Without seeing what boat your running, i also have a hard time not checking the closer rigs, almost anytime of year. As long as you have clarity in the water, try them.

As far as tackle care goes, i have mixed feelings on it. I’ve rinsed rods and reels only to have the reels rust up. Ive gotten to the point where i really only rinse them after fishing true salt water, or after heavy use, and im doing that more for the slime, not the salt. I try not to spray high pressure on the reels. I do however completely tear my reels apart at least once a year. I am using mostly cheaper reels and mid range rods. I use “reel magic” on my reels after almost every use… This was recommended to me by gus.

Do you ever fish the camps in Bay Ronquille? Those camps are so cool, would make one hell of an airbnb.

I started looking at this area on GED while i was working on friday. Those white poles i see, they are for navigational aid? Or are they oyster leases? Im talking about the one right behind the school launch.

You shouldn’t have any trouble finding a deal on a used bay boats right now. Been seeing a few in the $30k that were selling for like $40-50k during covid.

@Boyce you running 24v li time batteries? Or two 12v’s? 50amp or 100amp? curious because after that trip to Venice, I think I’m going to upgrade when I need to replace a lead acid again on either boat. Are you seeing more performance from the trolling motor or just more duration ?

Cool thanks man. You’re running a 36v on a 19’ aluminum bass tracker? Thing must be on plane trolling lol. I know my 16’ bass tracker does like double digit speeds with a 24v lol

I’m assuming you’re using their charger… I’ve resisted the urge to go lithium because of the cost but the Li time batteries aren’t much more. And I’m sure if I factored in replacing lead acids when they die, Im not saving anything with the lead acids.

Lake Catherine and lake p from treasure isle to Carr drive is lined by camps. Geohagen* canal is super easy to navigate to in the dark and can be great. I’ll offer up some tips off the top of my head.

Start early but stay out late till at least midnight.

    Glow colors work great.

Down sizing the lure can help produce bites.

If they are hitting the surface, they will readily hit topwater lures at night too.

I like to night fish areas I’ve been to in recent times, or get out there while there is still light, it just reassures me that there isn’t some new hazard I don’t know about. Nothing is guaranteed tho lol

@Devin it’s something I struggle with because I hate writing reports for whatever reason. I’ve been meaning to try chat gpt to see if that helps.

Idk seemed lucky to me lol. I will say that once we got to those nearshore rigs in the 20-60’ range, made me reconsider nearshore fishing. I think I love trout fishing so much because of the consistent bite once you find them, and those rigs provided that, whether it was white trout, red snapper, Cobia, permit, spade fish or whatever, it seemed like we had a decent bite the whole time.

My June-August numbers are pitiful. Even more pitiful is how every year I say I’m going to keep better records, and each year I get to about June, and completely stop before picking back up after August…
