“While getting my boat ready in the parking lot, I noticed that one of my favorite jigging rods was broken. It wasn’t broken last night when I was rigging it up, so I’m not sure when that happened. Not a good start.”

Sounds like how one of my days begin. LOL

“I would probably start in those Lakeshore Canals.”

You took the words right out of my mouth. That and Geoghegan. I’m guessing there was a lot of trout at the Trestles and not all of them went home in an ice chest, so I would look for them in protected deep holes.

Yeah, compared to how fall fishing in general is supposed to work out, this fall sure was lackluster. It was entirely way too warm, then we got a couple weeks of fall, then it fell down toward winter. It’s not legit winter water temps yet, but it’s getting there. Maybe the river will save us. She’s fallen and trying to clear up. She is clearing up, just not trout green yet.

But before driving all the way down there, I’d look hard at the ICW by Boh Bros. If you don’t know where that is, I can drop a pin. I’d even consider revisiting The Wall and the rocks there, especially after this front.

Great report, thanks for posting it!

“To my surprise, he said “Dad, what’s the point of catching small ones? Let’s try to get the limit!” No pressure….right?”

This boy is going somewhere in life. LMAO

I’m glad to hear your kid is taking to inshore fishing so well. That’s the next generation. I’m sure he’s like a sponge, just soaking it all in. He’s lucky to have you as a dad and take him fishing.

    Great report, thanks for posting!

Bumping this up because I see people logging in to enjoy the detailed reports others have gone out of their way to post.

Save that weirdo lurker behavior for Facebook. If you benefit from someone’s report, then take the minute to thank them, or consider posting a report yourself and giving back. Thank you.

“As I came back into the marina, boats were stacked up near the launch. I’m guessing the trout have finally sought refuge in the deeper water there.”

Yeah, I woulda definitely tried there first. If you have a graph, it could be good to look at it on your way out and in. You never know what might tip you off. Did you find out if anyone caught there? I would go to think people would try it just because of the cold front, but otherwise it’s a good roll of the dice.

” In about an hour I had my limit.”

    That’s solid work.

“He said he used to have Sea Tow but cancelled it a few years ago.”

I would love to know why. Same guy who doesn’t join Elite ’cause he already knows it all. Either way, you were there for him, and I thank you for that. We should be good to each other on the water.

    Great report, thanks for posting!

“There was a nice break in the boats around marker 175”

    Gee whiz.

“The pressure out there was horrible.”

It is, but it’s also pretty normal.

“Funny because there were loons everywhere there. That’s what kept me around for so long, but it was a bust.”

I love seeing them! I don’t blame you.

“Thinking about it now, that drop off next to the hospital wall would have been a good spot to throw a few casts.”

100%. I know a bunch of boats were piled up there the other day, so maybe the fishing there has come and gone. I have no idea. It is a popular spot, but definitely matched the conditions you were fishing.

“-it was enough cold days in a row to drop the water where the fish acted like winter time”

That makes sense. Great report, thank you for posting!

Man, I wish I saw this sooner.

Well, I think Delacroix is your best shot and hopefully you’re there.

In the future, try to give us more time. Also provide anything else you think you’ll need help with, like routes through the marsh.

This is exactly how I figured today would go had I launched the boat but GDFKNGAMMIT some knucklehead (probably on his stupid phone) rear ended me at a stop sign and today is the day scheduled to drop off the truck to get it fixed.

Boyce, great execution. That’s so good you got off the bridges and found them somewhere else. Given the latest imagery it makes sense there would be birds on the east side of the lake and you confirmed that for me.

For the record, I had plans to start first thing at Chef Pass since that’s where water would be moving first, then open water birds, then pass through the bridges, try some things that don’t stick out of the water, then maybe try the bridges if there’s space, more open water birds and finally more things that don’t stick out of the water.

I’m sure there’s already a bagillion boats at Hospital Pass, so that was my plan.

” I didn’t really see that many shrimp either. A few, but not the mother lode.”

It was the same thing in Delacroix after the front: the trout were eating anyway and they had shrimp in their bellies but no shrimp were jumping. It was wild.

“it’s very beneficial having a trolling motor that has way more thrust than your boat needs.”

    Hear! Hear!

“Luckily I keep a spare prop and prop nut on board so it was a 30 second fix and we were back fishing.”

    Again, excellent preparation and execution.

“The water temp at the boat ramp was 42 degrees!”

And so was the cold plunge. I was not on the water yesterday, alas, but in it, in solidarity with everyone launching their boat.

Great report, thanks for posting! I was at the aquarium with family all day and saw the flat water and just knew it would be a fantastic day on the water.

I’ll take a closer look later, but off the top of my head the left route is good, the middle route is good, the area to the right I can give you more feedback on when I get home.w

Dude, +1 to Gus’s. That is why we have local tackle stores. They’re here, they’re with you, they get it, they fish, too. They’re here for you. I love the Internet and what I do would not be possible without it, but I hate what it’s done to retail. Thank you for shopping at Gus’s. I’m actually going to be seeing him in a little bit. Good stuff.

Great find. Yeah, it looks like he’s drifting Decade, which is a common technique/hole. But if the trout are that far inside then where else are they?

    Thanks for sharing.

Those reports will be great when you can, but just hearing that the fishing is good is all I need to hear. Thank you so much!

If you see trout green water in the river at Buras then chances are pretty good they are somewhere around there. There may be no need to go to Venice.

Please post a report if you get time! Don’t let the lower water temps discourage you, they are there and they are eating. Get it while you can!
