“I wish I would have hit the Lakeshore because Todd Masson put out a video where he smashed some big trout on the Lakeshore and I think it might have been where I was thinking about going give a try”

1,000% do not do that. By the time he posts that video the bite is either done or about to be done. By the time you get to capitalize on that he has already moved on to the next bite and that Lakeshore bite is about to get pounded by the Armada if it isn’t already. You’re really better off getting ahead of the power curve and finding your “next fish” somewhere else.

I talk to the same people Todd does and that is absolutely what happens.

If you really want to use his channel properly, look at videos from this time last year and the years before that. That way you can get a handle on where to begin looking before the smooth-brain troglodytes do.

Do you want to be catching pressured fish around a bunch of knuckleheads and weed through throwbacks or do you want to catch keepers without the added aggravation of inconsiderate boaters, people running over the fish, etc.?

“I popped my good jerk bait off on a hook set”

Everyone stop what you’re doing and take a moment of silence for this lure. We lost a homie on this day.

“Total take home was 3 beautiful specks and 4 nice bass.”

    That’s plenty to eat!

Great report, thanks for posting! Try to get out Saturday if you can, the conditions are going to be dang near perfect.

“I stayed to catch an old school limit of 25”

    Good stuff. Hell yes.

“The question I have is: how do you guys like to target these fellas on flats?”

Pray for wind and deploy a drift sock. You want to be drifting less than 1mph, 0.5mph to 0.7mph is optimum.

This video from Lake Decade shows exactly how I do it at 1:12:30: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li5gNUfctr0

Here is yesterday’s video as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vavnnVcaRMg

No wind, so I used the trolling motor to move around until I found them stacked up and anchored down. Don’t spot lock in that shallow stuff.

Just throw a cork. Don’t mess with anything else. I have tried and I think you’d just be pissing in the wind. Maybe topwater when the sun is first rising or if its hard overcast. Otherwise, Cork City. An 18″ leader is perfect.

“Also for Devin: why did you think they would still be there after this insane wind?”

Because that’s where the food is. Forage drives everything. The shrimp aren’t running yet. It’s non-shrimp patterns all day until they do.

“Why does wind and dirty water sometimes push fish out and sometimes they stay in these areas?”

I think this has more to do with the fact that people are just scared of dirty water and it erodes their confidence, so they never fully apply themselves to reap the reward that’s there.

It also has to do with how dirty the water is relative to the surrounding water. I really drive this home inside 101, but the gist of it is that water that is stained badly isn’t as bad as straight river water. If that badly stained water is the best you’ve got, then that’s probably where the fish are. They just don’t have anything that’s better, so that’s what they’re gonna be in.

If the food is in dirty water, then the fish will be in dirty water.

I’m also going to urge you to just trailer to Delacroix. When you get up in the morning, pound a glass of water with a pinch of salt, do some jumping jacks and push ups, get your blood flowing, don’t have caffeine until after you’ve been up for an hour and hit the road early as balls.

Get some 3mg nicotine pouches from the gas station, like Zyn or Velo, to keep you going on the ride there and the ride home. Have some podcasts ready to go as well.

Saturday in Delacroix is gonna be pretty frikkin’ awesome if the predicted conditions don’t drastically change for the worse.

First off, thank you for making this post. This is the kind of wonderful, intentional and thoughtful approach to fishing that really does make for a better community. Thank you.

“The search function on this site actually works properly as opposed to Facebook, so that made me very happy.”

Yeah, that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

I try, and if ever it acts wonky please let me know. I’ve got a lot going on and do not monitor every facet of LAFB Elite 24/7. I’m here for you guys. Lemme know.

Also, you can search FB Groups by the year and sift through the results. It works better than nothing, though I’d expect better from a multi-billion dollar company.

“don’t be embarrassed if you didn’t smoke the fish”

This is key. We are here to work through it together. I don’t smoke the fish and will post accordingly. Everyone gets their ass kicked eventually. Everyone.

“Maybe you can knock both out if you smoke the trout and are back at the dock by 8:30 am”

I’m so confident in what I’ve seen in my last three trips that I fully expect you to do exactly that.

I wouldn’t bother with it. The water out there is garbage. Maybe Pointe Fienne is good, but based off what I’ve seen I wouldn’t bother with it. Stick with east of Terre aux Beouf and Lake Robin area.

Yes indeed. It feels good to have the pattern figured out, too. That’s what’s going on here. I think I’ve got them dialed in pretty good and will probably crush their nuts on Saturday. Bottle Lagoon really has me pumped.

I was talking at length with my buddy Ben yesterday. He tells me about what most of the guides do in Delacroix, which is call their friends to see where fish are at rather than what we do here in Elite. So they’ve all been in one area where there are lots of throwbacks because they’ve been culling the keepers.

But follow the pattern to find similar spots that aren’t pressured and you won’t have the throwback problem. We did that and it was amazing to catch keepers on the first and subsequent casts. Figuring out the pattern is like unlocking magic.

I’m thinking we are all gonna have a good day Saturday so long as the conditions remain predicted as they are.

Okay, that’s what I thought. I just looked up that drive and you’re looking at 3.5 hours to Delacroix. Yikes. That’s rough even for me and you know I trailer everywhere. Hmm.

So V-Bay is to you like what Lake P is to me. And guess what? I still drive right over that SOB. LOL

The drive to Lake Decade isn’t so bad. But also driving to the public boat launch behind the jail is a good idea, being way more doable at 1hr 45 mins. That’s about the same time I spend trailering to Pointe a la Hache or Port Sulphur.

Find it on Google Maps here.

Those canals north of Lake Boudreaux have trout in them during spring and they have trout in them now. You are literally fishing the canal and cuts off of it where you see moving water. Cork and jighead.

The ponds and shorelines are also good to cork for redfish. Dead shrimp is a go-to. Or chunk and wind a gold spoon.

The most redfish I’ve ever sighted in a single day was in the ponds north of Boudreaux. 200+ days I’ve had back there with the most recent being April or May of last year.

Or just stick with V-Bay for the very good reasons that you mentioned.

“No that is not the only 3 I picked”

    Okay, good.

“I am happy to try my new spot lock trolling motor, and Side Imagining unit.”

Spot lock is the way. Total game changer.

I think that you have what you need to catch some redfish on Saturday. Bring bug spray in case the gnats come out.

    Good luck!

Check my last three reports. Today I didn’t even bring anything that sinks. lol All stuff that floats or suspends. It’s Cork City out there.

No. It didn’t yesterday or today and this cold front doesn’t look any stronger than the one we just got.
