Great report, thanks for posting!

This report was a reply to this report post on 4-17-25.
Just split this off as its own report so the forum is nice and organized. In the future, please post a report as its own post so members see it. If it’s hidden in the comments on another report, it will be harder to find with a search and won’t get see at the forum level.
Thank you!

I like it. I have confidence in Trout 1 and Trout 2. Thing is, that whole area will probably be covered in boats.
I personally would feel better fishing the rigs and reefs in Lake Borgne and then the rocks on the east side. Fish your Lake Catherine stuff then be ready to haul ass for Lake Borgne.
L&N Bridge could be worth your time on the way out.
Of course, it sounds like you have intel that I do not. If you know fish are in Lake Catherine, specifically in tidelines eating shrimp…well…if I knew that then that would make me more confident fishing Lake Catherine.

Your arrow is a good guess, but it fell on Pointe a la Hache. The orange line is where the MRGO and Long Rocks are.
Confirm this at this link to Geosphere and reference the coastal boundary.

Do you know anyone who’s cast netting the shrimp? Are they browns or whites?
-
You didn’t keep the freshwater cat??!

“Now I’m even more confused as to where these dang fish are in Lafitte.”
Congrats, that makes two of us. lol
What kind of shrimp were they? I know in Delacroix during spring we will get another push of white shrimp. Brief, but it happens and trout form up on them.
This is different from brown shrimp because brown shrimp don’t punch as far into the estuary as white shrimp do.
So if there’s some white shrimp making their way out then they will do so from much deeper in the estuary where I’ve been led to believe it’s too “fresh” for brown shrimp.
So knowing that species difference is important.
If they are brown shrimp, then that would be a head scratcher and a sign of the Saltening.
Either way, knowing that shrimp pattern is key. I’d apply fall fishing strategy for the weekend.
I’m assuming the water was falling where you caught those fish at the end?
Great report, thanks for posting!

It’s like the River gave Breton Sound a black eye for no reason at all. lol

We won’t let you down!

It would be great if we could get you enough reports to know where to go and what to do on Monday.
FWIW, several times before in this forum I mentioned that on 4/15/24 I caught an easy limit of trout under birds at Independence Reef, but when I checked the report for that day I saw it was actually 4/30/24. It was definitely a morning bite.

I love the Viking seafaring spirit. Don’t forget Curlew on your way there.

Brilliant idea.
Back in the day that’s what we used to talk each other onto fish and share conditions. We used that channel and 74. Maybe the Shell Beach guides still do.

“Since we have a decent SE wind from now til Friday night, perhaps the water will be pushed up against the west side of Borgne”
The wind hasn’t been blowing hard enough to do that. When it does push water into the area, it’s uniform across the area. Shell Beach Buoy confirms this. It sits in the southeast corner of Lake Borgne, and you’ll see plenty of water reading there.
I’d fish the east side of Lake Borgne since that’s the side that’s been sitting in the lee of the land. Cleanest water will be there.
Check Geosphere to confirm. You will see cleaner water there.
I’m not saying you can’t catch fish at all on the west side, but I personally wouldn’t bother with it. I’d hit the rigs/reefs sitting in the clean stuff and the east side of Lake Borgne.
