Thank you for reporting on the concrete piling.
Yeah, I like using guides (those that are established and have proven themselves…everyone is a guide these days lol) as a comparison to see how well I did. If they got crushed, then chances are everyone did.
But, if they slammed the fish and I didn’t, then that means I’ve got something to learn.
So sounds like you did well given the completely crappy conditions. Wind makes everything tougher.

Way more people than that in the recreational and commercial industries rely on the fishery that they would be wiping out if we let them.

More often that not, the old adage “there’s nothing new under the sun” applies, and chances are someone has already invented that wheel.
That’s certainly the case here. We don’t need what happened to the upper east coast to happen down here. We cannot afford it.

I just can’t get down with destination fishing. Too much can go wrong.
Many times over the years we’ve had people come here asking how the fishing is in <insert month> because they booked a lodge and, at the end of the day, there’s no way to know. It’s a total crap shoot.
I think the best way around this is to book for a long time, like a week.

Unfortunately, most people in Louisiana can’t read and at least one of those persons sat on the Commission last time I was there making a comment.
Guy had the nerve to say that my claims were unsubstantiated, there’s no evidence, blah blah blah whatever.
All of what I’ve said there, here, and in the article I wrote are things that have been documented extensively.
Furthermore, the menhaden reduction industry is subsidized by the government to make a product that can be had from elsewhere for cheaper at a profit. So they’re not even a real business, that is sucking the life out of the Sportsman’s Paradise by removing the most important link in the food chain.

Shrimp don’t do what menhaden do. They don’t provide as much energy to fish or clean the water like menhaden do. Shrimp boats also stay off the beach. Pogey boats do not.
After that, pogey boats want to come in close to the shoreline and even get on it because that’s where the menhaden are.
But let’s not complicate the issue: menhaden reduction fishing needs to be GONE. That’s it.

The issue is about MENHADEN.
If the menhaden are gone, the entire ecosystem collapses. This is nothing new. This is not speculation or rhetoric. It’s already happened along the east coast and has been collapsing fisheries since the 1800s.
If the menhaden are gone, we will lose the shrimp, the crabs, oysters, trout, redfish, everything.
We do not need more studies. We do not need deliberation.
Menhaden fishing needs to be OUTLAWED. It’s needs to be ELIMINATED. It is as simple as that.

I’m more of a Troutmasters One guy. I think all of the captains in Too are great anglers, but (not naming anyone in particular) most of them spent their time taking people fishing to catch limits rather than focus on actual big fish.
I felt like One was about the “quiet killers” and guys who would focus on the big fish.
Just my opinion. Given the state of things, I think anyone would be foolhardy not to read both books and glean what they can.

It is a travesty that that video only has 6.4k views. I’m also kinda relieved at that. Guess casuals would rather watch knot tying videos. lol
