Then I’ll run down the middle of the marsh to try some spots in Bayou Biloxi itself then jump into Lake Borgne using one of two shortcuts that I plotted out and hit some bayous draining into Lake Borgne. I’ll be in the lee of the land the whole way back and then hit the Rock Dam at the end.

The developers I hired aren’t pulling through on what I thought would be a 30 day project. It’s been a giant money and time suck for me and I am about *this close* to saying “screw it” and giving up.

This is a great report. It’s good to see the consistency. I’ll have to get down there, but for now I’m just going to stick with the plan I made. Great report, thanks for posting!

Well, that’s interesting. I’m going tomorrow and planned on Bayou Biloxi and the Rock Dam but now you have me thinking I need to pick out a buncha spots in Lafitte and give that a whack.
Great report! It sounds like that side of the river is doing great!

“Launched at Falgout Marina around 5:10am and idled down the canal”
I love that early start!
“We might’ve done better staying in Decade / Lost Lake all day and not running so far out. But now we know. Still a good day.”
I’d say y’all had a good day and now know where to go (and where not to go).
I dunno if you’ve seen it or not, but I have a planning file for Dulac for pretty much the same conditions you fished. It’s inside 101, but a screenshot is attached.
Or maybe just grinding Decade is a good choice next time you go. It’s still awfully warm, but it wouldn’t shock me if they were in there already.
Great report, thanks for posting!

First off, thank you for not dropping this the night before. lol
Second, everyone reading this should recall that ebfulch will be in a kayak, just to clear up any confusion.
“10+mph east wind”
What forecast are you using? It’s gonna blow way harder than that. Windfinder and NOAA Marine Forecast are good tools for marine wind predictions.
“Do you approach it like any other weekend, just observing the conditions and acting accordingly?”
Yes, do that, just understand that conditions could change and you will need to change, too.
If I were you, I’d go to Seabrook and fish that with a Heavy Drop Shot. You will be protected from that east wind, but there will be boats there to contend with.
Or go to the Rock Dam and sit there all day. Or go across Bayou La Loutre from Hopedale Marina into the Spoil Canal and go down that first canal on your right. Fish at the end of that. That’s a great fall spot I used to fish but since kayaking has grown in popularity I avoid it. All the ponds, bayous, trenasses, etc. connecting into that are good to fish, too. Plus you will be protected from that east wind.
Geoghegan Canal out of Rigolet’s Marina is another good bet. It’s closer and protected from east wind, but as warm as it is I don’t know how many fish will be in there.
The backside of Delacroix behind Sweetwater will probably be great to fish. You’ll have a little protection and the east wind will have the water levels up.
Or just do what you planned before.

After looking at the Shell Beach buoy it appears you spent most of the morning fishing a slack tide in 20mph wind. You were basically in a boxing match against Tyson with both hands tied behind your back.
“I also want to pick his brain about trophy trout returning to the pontchartrain estuary now that we are a few years removed from the freshening.”
I would LOVE to know what he thinks.
Great report, thanks for posting!

Ha ha ha!! Welcome to the community. Glad to have you here.
I’ve heard that hunting translates/cross trains with fishing pretty well. I remember KVD making some comparisons, though I can’t recall them at the moment. I also think bass fishing is a great universal learning machine for pretty much all types of fishing. Highly recommended. I’m sure you get it.
Thanks for posting an intro, and hopefully we see a report or two in the future!

lmao
Yeah, I can kiss that A-rig goodbye if the worst happens. I’m alright with that, it will be epic. It’s just sitting in the garage not doing anything anyway lol
-
Ahhh, I should have known that those gates would be close. Darn. Well, shoot, that makes your trip to Dularge even more successful!!!
-
Yeah, whenever I think I need a new boat I just go look at prices and that instantly cures me. I hate that fishing has become so expensive!!

Hopefully that storm fizzles out and the wind will be better. But as it stands right now, a lot of water is going to dump out on Sunday. I don’t care what the tide says, with all that east wind pushing water in then the wind turning around on Sunday out of the west, chances are that Sunday can be pretty epic.

Okay, so you know, due to the current I was throwing a 1/2oz jig up against the rocks. IIRC it drops off to 8ft or deeper pretty quick.
“I have felt this way every time I’ve left there and I have yet to hammer anything there lol. Adventure is a hell of drug.”
I don’t know if/when you plan on going back but when you do we need to make certain you catch some damn fish down there. Let me get down there and run my stuff and figure it out. Or it may be better to just fish Lake P area until Venice cools off. I dunno, not without looking at it. But man, for you to get down there and run those routes (and catch some fish anyway) and not rip off your lower unit, I’d say you were pretty shit hot.
“That spot was where I landed those first two specks. It’s a great looking spot. I definitely want to pac man those rocks. I was so fired up at that point on day 1, I was ready to run and gun everywhere lol.”
I’ll probably Pac Man that thing in the next couple weeks or so. A lot of B-roll on the Captain Devin Fishing Youtube channel came from that spot, especially the Pac Man video.
