If you have firearms that you regularly shoot, then that ultrasonic bath may be a worthy investment. For what you would pay someone to do it, you can buy one. I’m looking at price points ranging from $70 to $160 on Amazon.
You can also use one to clean eyewear and jewelry.
Otherwise, I have not ran a two-stroke in 11 years. I’d be tempted to find a YouTube video for that specific carb and do it myself.
Or just find a shop that can confidently do it. Call them and ask. If they give anything other than a confident “yes” then look elsewhere. That’s really all I got.

Man, let’s help this guy get his outboard fixed, he’s a proven report-poster! We need that War Eagle back in the game!

Well, you’re a smart guy for taking time to post about your fishing trip and let us know how it went, then asking for feedback on how it could’ve gone better. I bet a lot of people don’t do that, dooming themselves to repeat the same mistakes.
So, thanks for doing that, because I definitely see some glaring deficiencies that can be easily fixed here.
First, I think you just learned the hard way about what I’ve been saying for a minute now: making planning posts. And not just that post, but multiple emails (I’m sorry the rest of the world spams all of y’all, but when I send an email it is with purpose and intention. You really want to make sure you get those emails). I’ll elaborate:
If you had taken time to make a planning post then myself and others could have seen it and told you about Pearl River splooging gunk everywhere because she’s high due to recent intense local rain fall. Not because I was out there on Friday, but because I can see it from the comfort of my home while wearing nothing more than underwear.
We also could’ve pointed out the dirty water on Geosphere she’s yeeting into Mississippi Sound and the top of Biloxi Marsh. (see attached pic from 10am the day before your trip)
We also could’ve pointed out the numerous good fishing reports in Lake Borgne for the rigs/reefs that you ran right past.
Or that the rigs and powerlines in Lake Pontchartrain are probably “on” with slot reds, bull reds and even a smattering of speckled trout right now. At least that way if you break down over there you have cell signal and can get a call out, whereas at the top of EBM I have not had a signal with either AT&T or Verizon (I have both because I hate drifting aimlessly into nowhere with no way on).
“but never saw clean water through the course of my 22 mile path”
Because you were running in the outfall of the Pearl River the entire way there and back (see attached pic).
“Assuming the north wind muddied all of Lake Borgne?”
Not further south where those productive rigs (probably loaded with biting fish) are.
“Do you think had I ran a little further into False Mouth or Bobs Bay I might’ve found water protected by that north wind a might’ve been a little cleaner?”
Possibly, but I also feel that you just ran too far in the first place. If your fuel gauge worked you would’ve known you could have run into Bay Boudreau over to Karako and fished the oyster reefs and artificial reefs over there. That could’ve worked. Or maybe just fish those rigs in Lake Borgne.
But here is an Earth-shattering plot twist: you really don’t need that fuel gauge.
You should definitely get it fixed, but if you had made a path on Google Earth Desktop you would know how many miles you are going to run and can tailor that path as necessary to fit your fuel capacity and fuel consumption, which you should know. What MPG does your boat get at whatever RPM? 2mpg, 4mpg, an amazing 6mpg?
You should know your boat and its performance if you’re serious about punching over the horizon on your own (or with people you’re responsible for).
The Zodiacs I ran “doing things for people” didn’t have fuel gauges. Gnartooth didn’t have a fuel gauge for two years, and my Pathfinder’s fuel gauge was, at best, a suggestion. But I knew both those boats inside out.
If you made a path and took time to think very thoughtfully about your fishing trip then you’d know how far you can run and even give yourself a little wiggle room “just in case”.
Of course, this is all stuff I talk about extensively in the 11 hours+ of IF101. It really boils down to planning your trip because then you will uncover the things you don’t know that you don’t know, which I imagine is a heap.
That’s what we are solving now.
The capstone here is this Community. It’s a shortcut even, it’s like you can come here and see what you’re missing. I even use it and that should tell you something.
Finally, thank you for taking time to post a report and ask for feedback. A lot of folks don’t do that because their ego gets in the way. Which is too bad for them, they’re doomed to re-invent the wheel. Now, you are not. You’re on the right path.

What’s the issue with the motor? Is it a four stroke?
I think there’s gonna be a wait anywhere you go.
With that said, I’d look hard at Cypress Cove Marine or Boat Stuf in Slidell.
Pier 21 Marine in Kenner I used years ago, but the original owner left so I stopped going there.

Also, welcome to the forum. There are other kayak anglers here as well. @Aspiring_Angler @Gcofield are a couple off the top of my head. I’d network with them if I were you.

Is there any way you can get to the rocks on the Gulf side of the island? I think those and the surf could be more productive, and it’s gonna lay down.
-
Yeah, I would definitely go there. Fish the rocks furthest away from the beach and the beach itself. I’ve seen kayakers do it, so there’s no reason why you can’t. Paddling through the pass might be a effort in futility going the wrong way. Porting over the island could require less effort.

A really good option that can be a little pricey but definitely just works is Starlink Mini. I’m accessing this forum now through one. Literally just plug it in and throw it on the lawn and *voila* you’re on the Internet.
And I ordered one for the house, because Spectrum is continuously not working for whatever reason despite having a monopoly on the terrestrial grid. It’s Monday, there’s work to do, I am annoyed because I couldn’t get on the Internet and work. Like, what the hell? So Starlink it is. And when we get whacked by a storm I will still have Internet. Spectrum can crawl up my ass and fight for air.
Anyway, I digress.
My point is that if you invest in a Starlink Mini you will have an option to get Internet out on the water (or anywhere in the world, pretty much) and when you inevitably get an Internet outage at your home you can use it as a backup. It costs $50/month and you can pause your subscription when you’re not using it. You do have to pay for the hardware (a dish, cable and wall adapter) that’s about $300 IIRC. The wifi router is built into the dish. It’s super slick.
The next step is getting SeaTow onboard with the future. I’ve talked to the NOLA franchise owner about this, telling him that a simple and free solution for SeaTow is to get on Signal, a secure messaging app that’s pretty standard these days. SMS is out, data is in.
Perhaps there’s a data-to-SMS app out there, but ultimately it would be better for everyone to just use data.
After that, there’s the SeaTow app, but I have no idea if it’s wonky or not. It’s probably wonky.

Yeah, I got a SpotX messenger years ago to trial/review and it wasn’t that great. It hardly worked.
Garmin’s InReach just works. I love tech that just works and no errors, not working, etc.

I love it. Glad to hear about the Helix. If you have a PC then you will want to consider using Humminbird PC to transfer waypoints/tracks.
This course here helps to that end: https://www.lafbelite.com/course/hbpc/
There’s always next weekend. Love the positive attitude. You’ll whack ’em. It’s just a matter of time right now.

Yeah, the search is way better than FaceCrap. I just love all things that are good tech, and this platform is a step in that direction.

I dunno, how did someone figure out smoking frog spit produces psychedelic effects? LOL

If you get time, please post a separate report. Thank you so much!
