Yeah, 15mph wind is a lot for a body of water that big. If it was out of the north then the south side of Couba Island could have been a good choice. Also, in 101 I go over some grass mats on the north side of Salvador that could be worth looking at. I have no idea if they’re there now or not, it’s just worth looking.
Otherwise, great report, thanks for posting!

Some of these are new to me. Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll be sure to check them out when I get time.

That’s not a bad box of fish. I’m guessing it was windy out there?
Great report, thanks for posting!

Is that the Haynie Magnum in your profile? If so, that thing is a battleship. That’s the boat to hit Tiger Shoals in.
Have you been fishing at all lately? I imagine that area has been turned on for a minute now.
Great intro, thanks for saying hi!

“it’s about as basic as you can get.”
I fished out of something similar for years and did great. It’s all you need. Your overall costs will be greatly reduced as well. Good things.
“Yes, I’m stealing Devin’s idea from a recent post!”
Good!
“Water on most recent MODIS imagery looks dark which I hope means the water is clear”
Lake Salvador has a hard bottom and generally stays pretty clean. Not like Florida beach clean, but clean. Like blackwater.
“Will probably start with a jig and try different lures to see if I can get the fishes attention from all sides of the rigs, as I have no idea where they’ll be.”
Just make sure you hit the bottom, and an HDS rigged with a 1/2oz weight ought to be sufficient to this end. As for a cork, why not? Throw both. But I bet you’ll have more success fishing the bottom.
“Plan B is to troll back along the south shoreline of Lake Salvador which looks more broken up, maybe find some grassy spots and sight fish for reds.”
There may be aquatic grass there, but I’d expect dirty water from barge traffic on the ICW. Ida really did a number on that shoreline and (of course) it hasn’t been restored. Probably won’t be, either.
For a plan B, maybe try the south side of Couba Island instead. Gold spoon or dead shrimp under a cork is a cheat code.
Plus you can take the Gulf Canal back, but anticipate it possibly being choked out by water hyacinth.
Good luck!

It’s something else when you see them tailing like that. That’s a helluva redfish.
Great report, thanks for posting!

Yeah, it looks like it has been coming up in the last 30 days, but 5ppm is basically fresh. I think you meant parts per thousand.
What I would do is find fishing reports from since the 2021 or whenever it was the rivers started acting right and compare those against salinity measurements at their time. There could be some correlation showing when to fish certain places. Of course, when the trout are done spawning, they’ll push to pretty much anywhere there’s food.
I’m thinking V-Bay is going to have a stellar fall.

The best thing you can do is make a good planning post for those trips. All the stuff that’s obvious to locals or guys who regularly fish the area will be made known if you can do that. If not, you’ll learn it the hard way, which is tough because your time is limited.

Believe me, I get it.
People want/need to be spoonfed. It’s really hard to compete in the content space these days.
