What’s going on here? Why does everything seem to be in decline?

Very interesting.
How do you load GPS data into it? Does it need Humminbird PC and an “encrypted” SD card or does it take a straight GPX file?

So, your report sounds about right with the water temp being what it is. It’s still warm. Let it get around ~74 and those spots will be on fire with keepers.
Of course, by then, you’ll want to be in the River.
And why do trolling motors only seem to break the day of the fishing trip? lol
Great report. I think you did well despite the water temp. Thanks for posting!

Man, that’s a grind. I’m sure there’s a motherlode of fish somewhere around there, you just found where they ain’t.
Water temp is still warm, anyway.
Great report, thanks for posting it!

I would definitely put this in the category of “buy once, cry once”. I’ve been broke down or stuck in the middle of nowhere more than once, and somehow always found a way home. Having something that can for sure phone home makes me feel a lot better. This device has been able to do that via text and I’ve used it across Venice, Biloxi Marsh, etc.
Thanks for sharing.

Man, that sounds epic. Like a truly epic experience on the edge of the world.
The views and experiences of coastal Louisiana are never ending. You never know what you’ll get into out there.
Yeah, the trout are MIA, but I’m cool just watching tarpon roll.
Great report, thanks for posting!

“The falling tide was hard to gauge because it was fighting the wind.”
You can gauge this by looking at how your boat swings when it’s anchored. The prevailing force will point it whichever way. After that, once you are positioned, you can observe the direction your lure/rig flows in the water.
“which resulted in me landing a series of little rat reds”
Probably the kind of rat reds that are very obviously not of legal size when viewing them down an arrow through the water. The rest got clapped.
“and indicated that that north wind was the culprit”
I disagree. A north wind is totally fishable. The water temp is 84 degrees. It’s still hot. That and there’s just not that many fish as there once were, and a whole lot more water they can be in now. You gotta cover more water.
“I don’t see a break from the wind pattern so wondering how to take advantage of it?”
You gotta get protected. The south side of the Rock Dam is an easy example. Get in the lee of the land. Fighting the wind and waves is hard and makes fishing much less productive.
Otherwise, great report and thanks for posting!

Yeah, that could work, even though I’m partial to getting into the main river and fishing the rocks there.
The water temp is 84 degrees. That’s kinda warm. Really has me bummed out.

Good call on the app.

Which is ridiculous compared to what it used to be. I remember the owner of LASM telling me they’d shoot ducks until they ran out of ammo. lol

You should have VHF, too.

Marron’s Scoop is good. That other bayou draining out directly to the west is worth trying. The canal running east/west leading to Marron’s Scoop is also worth trying.
Major Outflow 1 and 2 tends to have diving birds, but more sailcats than trout. That’s just been my experience.
I would definitely fish Crooked Bayou where it dumps into Lake Eugene.
Also, given that the water temp is 84 degrees, I’d consider fishing the Grand Banks artificial reef, and other artificial reefs in Mississippi Sound. Find a list here. I’d hit those spots if it were calm.
