“I have been noticing lately that the bigger trout are biting throughout the day instead of early morning. Has anyone else seen this?”
Is this observation based off one trip?
“Is this new fish bite pattern related to the hard freeze we had?”
No.
“Any other factors contributing to this?”
It’s spring.
“The big fish were loaded with eggs and we caught a lot of croaking males.”
It’s spring. Very normal.
“My daughter said it was an answer to prayer to do this with me before she ships out to Japan in July”
I’m glad y’all had a good one and got to spend quality time together!
Great report, thanks for posting!

Perfect straight and to the point report.
Glad to know fish are out there, they should be really hitting there this time of year.
Thanks for posting!

“They have been elusive to me.”
Yeah, because they’ve all been shot at night.
Go somewhere there’s no bow fishing charters or way more reds. I’d look hard at the MRGO south of the Rock Dam. I’ve seen double prop scars in Biloxi Marsh, so I wouldn’t look there.

I like it, but share your concern that areas that have been explored and drilled that much tend to have lots of oil field trash, etc. that could ruin your day. Old pipelines, stuff like that.
So I would run your white route and even my orange route on a day you’re done fishing and you’re not pressed by time.
The orange route is more of an unknown, but would be shorter. Go slow and check it out then you’ll have that route. This seems like extra work but it’s what I do and my future self always thanks me.

AdministratorMay 3, 2025 at 9:50 am in reply to: Is it wrong to ask a charter captain for free advice? The TLDR here is that you expertly handled that situation and have the right mindset. Keep going.
“Man, we gotta watch out for you kayakers.”
I think he meant that in a literal way. When you’re standing up in a bay boat that tends to put kayaks below the horizon and makes them harder to see. It’s a safety thing.
“The first reason I didn’t ask my charter friend for advice was, I WANTED TO FIND MY OWN FISH.”
Same reason I don’t. Additionally, if someone sent me to the fish, then did I really find them?
After that, once I’m entangled in the “he sent me to the fish” then it’s like I owe him, and it’s really easy to get sucked into the minutiae of man drama rather than the minutiae of the process of covering water and finding fish.
Do you want to be a “phone call captain” or legitimately good at fishing?
“He said, “As soon as your kids get out of school, let me know. I wan’t to take you and your three boys fishing. On the house.””
What a guy! I hope y’all went and had a good time. Maybe pick his brain about techniques/process a little.
“Four flounder, two trout, and a keeper red.”
That’s great. Good work.
“And I mused, “Is it wrong to ask free advice of a charter captain?””
Well, what is that advice? If it’s “go here to catch fish” then that’s not real advice, that’s spoon-feeding. Because even if you do catch fish at that spot, it will eventually dry up then you’re stuck with finding them again. It’s better to learn how to find them from scratch than lean on a network.
Just getting to reel in fish and catch them at a spot that was handed out can be good in the same way that a cast helps a broken bone heel, but eventually the cast has to come off.
You are on the right path. You are doing the thing and embracing The Way.
You should probably get down to Grand Isle/Elmer’s in the next 30 days.

I’m a wee uncomfortable having my logo out there in the wild en-masse for a few reasons.
Reason #1: I am not worried about getting my brand in front of people. I got that, and more does not equal “better”. Better equals better.
Reason #2: You guys are squared away and awesome and the best thing since sliced bread. You know who you are, but go count the number of dudes who actually post fishing reports. There are way more dudes who don’t. There will be “The One” amongst that group who will fk this up for everyone and when he does my logo will be on his boat. Nope nope nope.
That also goes the other way. If I do or say something stupid on the Internet, then all of you with a recognizable logo are associated with that. 99% of people in Louisiana love me, but there are 1% who don’t because haters gonna hate. Do the math, that’s roughly 50,000 haters. lol
Reason #3: Anonymity is great. I don’t think too many people understand that. Keep it low key. It’s hard putting tooth paste back in the tube.
Reason #4: When the sticker eventually gets compromised you will want to peel it off an get a new one.
Reason #5: Amateurs advertise.
The solution here is a rolling innocuous decal. If you see a smoke-show mermaid with a speckled trout bottom, then that’s probably LAFB Elite. Or maybe not. Use your head. This will weed out the retards.
@WestbankJosh do you think you could fiddle with an AI generator to make something that’s printable in a 5″x5″ format? Like what you see attached here? When you find something you like, post it here. When we can get enough consensus as to what’s good I’ll foot the bill to get the decals done.

Good news. Now we just need the river to go down and stay down.
-
I think your plan could work and is well planned for the conditions, especially the wind.
But I do think you should have a plan redfish.
-
I’m indisposed of at the moment on out of town business, but as soon as I reach a stopping point or when I get back home on Monday I will follow up on this.
-
I need more information: should this be an overtly obvious “LAFB Elite” logo type decal?
Or should it be something not obvious? Like a symbol/sign only we would know?
-
Man, that’s the living, breathing definition of a grind.
I think you’ve been over 101 a bunch. Next time you plan to go fishing, let us know what you plan to do and we can get you pointed in a better direction.
Let’s get you on some fish.
Great report, thanks for posting!

Hey Greg, thanks for posting an intro! Great to have you here.
Yeah, I hear you on the heat. It was getting warm on Saturday. My trick is to “beat the heat”, be headed in by 9am. Or go fishing at night. That’s definitely an option and probably a better idea during summer.

That’s what I’m saying! You gotta be “in”.
-
You’re absolutely correct. Networking is great. Spoon feeding is not. Your mileage may vary.
-
That actually could work. Are you familiar with Sticker Mule?
