    Excellent reporting. Absolute top notch.

Yeah, I do think that if you want to catch a bunch of fish, you’re going to have to punch into Lake Borgne to fish the rigs/reefs there (when the wind allows) or get down to the bleeding edge of river water in Pointe a la Hache, and fish Delacroix along the way.

That MS link John provided looks to be complete.

But also check GED for canals and other relief/structure that you can see on clear water days. I think those are worth fishing. The beach reefs have always interested me, especially the stuff that doesn’t stick out above water.

    Good luck!

What are the orange scribbles for? The AOC project there?

That cove south of 23, the one with all the grass. I’d look hard at that.

18 is good, and I would look hard at that SE shoreline.

Otherwise, great plan given the conditions. Popping cork will probably do all the damage, but I agree on the topwater. Good luck!

And you could probably do rigs in Terrebonne Bay if you hide on the backside of them.

“they said they wanted to see the Gulf again. Next time, they’ll say “gulf shores or orange beach”.”

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha that’s hilarious

    “Alrighty team…what’s the plan?”

    You tell me.

With a 25′ Majek you definitely have options.

This is a healthy criticism: what you’ve posted is not much of a plan. This is textbook how fishing trips (if I’m being charitable) don’t fulfill their potential or (if I were to be straightforward and realistic) fail. We don’t know exactly when you’re fishing. Can you fish Sunday?

Yeah, the wind sucks. We get that part. But how much does it suck? 10-15 or 15-20? Where else can you fish besides the back of Timbalier? Have you looked at a map?

You have a lot of lee of the land to work with over there. You can stay protected, hide from the wind, fish points, etc. for speckled trout. Have you seen the other reports in here? I’d use the patterns in those reports to create a template/plan for Coco.

It’s going to be the same thing.

Since you’re staying the night, there is probably going to be some dock light action around Coco.

It would be in your interest to put some meat on the bone.

“Half way down there from Slidell, the little girl vomits on herself, then my son vomits”

What are kids for if they’re not getting randomly sick for no reason at all during inopportune times? lol

“Having to take photos with the fish slows you down.”

    Hell yeah it does.

“But I took this trip for my son and his friend, not to feed my ego”

    Very well said.

    Great report, thanks for posting!

    A couple notes:

Stay away from generic lure molds. Make your own unique mold. It will be easier to market and stand apart from everyone else. Without diming anyone out, there are prominent Louisiana lure brands that have fallen for the myopic Siren call of push-button production. They make <insert copy> that is really just a knockoff of <insert original>. The casuals won’t know any better but the guys (like me) who really understand fishing tackle, spend thousands of dollars on it and make media showcasing it (intentionally or not) will know better and turn their nose up to what’s just another uninspired, forgettable lure.

Have your stuff made in the USA if you can help it. For one, Americans love that. But two, if we do go at odds with China your supply chain won’t be cut off (and other lure companies will).

Focus on making a great lure first. All the social media/marketing/whatever hacks can make you money in the short term, but won’t stand the test of time. This is especially the case if you ever get into hard baits. Things to look for include consistency in color, plastic density, etc.

Know what makes your lure unique. Does the plastic float or sink? How many different kinds of jigheads does it work with? Does it do anything the other plastics do not?

If you do get sucked into the endless void of content creation, then focus on evergreen content. That’s content that will be relevant now and in the future. Evergreen: how to rig soft plastics. Not evergreen: how to fish Lake P during the 2011 spillway opening.

Fish different areas. This is a strong suite you guys have that others do not (or will not) have. Chas sort of follows this, but not really: he only fishes Lake Pontchartrain area. But I think he would have done better all these years if he went to Hopedale, Dularge, Grand Isle, Venice, etc. to build relationships with the marina & tackle store owner/operators and show to the smooth-brained masses that “yes” the lure really does catch fish across Louisiana’s varied coast (obviously any soft plastic does, but folks don’t know that).

Now, he does go to Florida, which I think is great. That’s because Florida has a bigger/better market than Louisiana. More people who spend more money who don’t know any better live there.

But I do have a loyalty to the Boot State and think that one who owns an inshore-based business here should strive to fish across it.

You guys already do that. That’s a strength. Use it.

In my opinion, it’s badass having content filmed across the state. That’s a far cry from catching a few doing the same milk run your daddy showed you thirty years ago.

Lane bought Cajun Lures? Zach Dubois doesn’t own it anymore?

Yeah, it definitely is shallow there. But I have seen an alternative oyster culture (AOC) project there and always wondered if that would attract fish at all or not. I did fish it a couple years ago, saw lots of bait, but did not catch any fish. Could be worth trying again in the future, but I would beeline for more promising spots.

    How dirty?

Solid chocolate milk or very stained?

They bite in the stained to very stained stuff. I’m fine if people don’t believe that. Just means more marsh to fish to myself 🙂

I think Slidell will be far better for fishing than Lafayette.

I don’t know anything about Abney. Had no idea it existed until you brought it up.
