“This was an enjoyable trip: quick, easy, close to home – and I ended up with 8 nice keepers among 14 speckled trout”

It’s so hard to beat that. No trailering, no crappy launch, no walking through a muddy parking lot, no putting up with room-temp IQ people at the launch lol! Just sounds like a relaxing and fun fishing trip.

“so I persisted until a small white trout solved the mystery for me and I moved on.”

Ah yes, the ol’ 10″ white trout simulating a school of speckled trout. lol

Geoghegan Canal might turn on after this front.

    Great report, thanks for posting!

Good night! Holy smokes! What a friggin’ day of fishing. I just can’t right now. Oh man, you are driving me nuts with this. I. Should. Have. Fished. Yesterday. ArrggghhhH!! lol

Okay, I’ve stayed away from the Trestles, but I may go out there. I do enjoy jigging in front of a crowd if I can make it happen. 😉

I assume there were a lot of boats out there. If there were not, then there’s gonna be. lol

Yeah, Hwy 11 bangs a lot better on a falling tide.

Epic report of the ages, thank you for posting!

It makes me very happy to know you guys went out there and had fun catching trout. I see that you followed the Lake Decade Standard Operating Procedure LOL

Also, thank you for taking time to post a report. Many people take and don’t give, and it’s nice to know my report helped someone. So getting that feedback is wonderful.

@dannonc89 forget Venice, go to Dularge and drift Lake Decade!!!!!

    “My skeg took some damage”

If that thing was in great condition before then I’m shocked. Now it’s just another south Louisiana skeg. lol

“The water is always shockingly clear back there and great when conditions are tough.”

    That’s great intel.

I fished that day as well, and it took some moving around to find them. I eventually found them at a spot that may as well have been designed for post-cold front fishing, so that’s that (The Wall). Now I’m not sure where to go around Lafitte to find something like that, but you tried and now you have the experience.

Great report, thanks for posting it!

When you said you didn’t go to Dularge and then the fog was non existent, I got worried that you had a tough day. But you didn’t!!

Was that your first time to Lafitte? You’re certainly not a Lafitte regular?

That’s an excellent day of fishing, great report! Thank you for posting it!

I don’t have a video for Dularge published yet.

Here’s my report from the 16th.

You want to launch from Falgout Canal Marina. Whatever navigation app you use will take you there.

Take a right out of the marina and go to Lake Decade. It’s about three miles. You cannot possibly miss it.

Interesting. Well, I would fish Shark Bayou after the cold front, then maybe slip out in The Cove, but I may go fish somewhere more protected. Thank you for the intel!

It blows my mind how people, even after all these years, do not go to Hwy 11. Good. Good.

Awesome, please do! I just want you and your son to stomp the daylights out of the trout and have fun catching fish.

Something else I thought of: you don’t really need to do any navigational homework for Dularge. But you will for Venice! That place is FAFO for lower units. That and your trolling motor had better be in great shape (as you already know). But for Lake Decade no trolling motor is necessary. A drift sock helps, but is not necessary.

If you need info for anything else, then let us know!

What Levi said. That time spent driving could be spent fishing instead. You’re just drifting Lake Decade. It’s way easier than putting up with the river, LNG Plant & Belle Chasse traffic.

I have mad respect for that. Excellent work doing the thing. I know it feels good to catch ’em some place new. Do Lake Decade next! Hopefully the fog plays nice.

I would go optimistically, but fully expecting it could be a tough day. I’ll explain why:

First, anytime there’s a big change in weather (like this cold front) that tends to shake things up. I like to see things remain steady. But that really applies more to the marsh and less to the river.

Second, the river is constantly moving. It just doesn’t change in clarity and temp like the marsh does. So, for that reason I think you could be good. It’s a stable place that fish stack up in.

Third, the river is coming up, but will be at 3ft Sunday. Five feet is when the river fishing craps the bed. I think you could be good.

Lastly, the tide sucks. It’s less than a foot, but it is falling first thing in the morning.

So, there are things working for you and against you.

I do think you could have luck in The Jump, but if you’re asking me to guarantee you a great fishing trip, then I cannot do that.

Why Venice? Why not go to Dularge? Isn’t that way closer? Did you see my report for Lake Decade?
