Sometimes the fish are just gonna be where they are gonna be, and it could be the case that they were on the north side of the tracks and that’s all there is to it.

But, in my experience, with the wind blowing like that, I would go to the south side of the tracks and launch. There’s a couple places you can do that with your kayak, with the southern base of the Hwy 11 bridge being one such spot. Next time, go there and fish in the lee of the land. Your life will be a lot easier.

Next: yeah, you could’ve “lost” the school as you couldn’t get back in the water quick enough. That’s possible. But also given the nature of the Trestles, it’s likely the fish were just spread out and all you could do was go back to making casts at pilings. This will require you to move.

Since you revealed that fish were off the pilings, I would consider trolling, especially given the equipment you have.

For me, trolling in my bass boat is hard because it idles too fast, but your kayak will probably be spot on. There’s tons of videos on how to do this: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=trolling+trestles

    These are worth looking at:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8NvvOvtqwM

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gatdOPpJzDc

Gus’s Tackle in Slidell sells short rods for trolling rigs as well as all the tackle described in the videos. The short rods, lead line, etc. are nice to have but not necessary.

I personally do not troll, but it works well. Sometimes it works best.

“Maybe I would have caught more had I been more efficient?”

    Perhaps.

“Maybe the bite would have turned off anyway?”

Maybe. Or perhaps not that the bite turned off, but that trout swam off and you had to go find them all over again. Or maybe you vacuumed up the three that were there and you still would have had to find more or wait for more to swim into where you were casting. I do not know for sure.

    “water temp was averaging 72F”

Wow! I called BS when I read this but then checked NOAA stations and YEP it sure is! Just…wow. That is super warm for February. I’d look real hard at fishing rocks in the MRGO south of the Rock Dam and even the Long Rocks themselves.

Very good to hear the positive reports from folks. That has me optimistic.

Great report, thank you for posting.

As a final note to my previous post, a wood jig could work better. Those are jigheads with the eye oriented flat, or 90 degrees to that of a grass jig (which is what most jigheads are). The idea comes from bass fishing, where “grass” jigs pull through hydrilla (or whatever grass) better, and “wood” jigs pull over branches of wood, dock cross members, etc. better. It really does work.

It’s just that no one makes jigheads like that cheap, so I never experimented with it on the Trestles. I just keep feeding the Lead Monster down there. lol

“turned their Delacroix spots into community holes”

That’s fascinating. I wonder which spots they’re talking about because I haven’t filmed anywhere in Delacroix that wasn’t already well known or is geo-locatable.

If they can really catch fish then they won’t have to rely on community holes. Only a handful of guides are legit. Like you mentioned, most rely on community holes.

    Haters are gonna hate.

With that said, I appreciate you sharing LAFB’s content on social media. Thank you. But if it causes you extra BS, then let some other hapless soul do it. lol I appreciate you going to bat, but not one of you ever has to argue on my behalf.

“records trips in Florida and then claims they were from Louisiana”

That’s a lot more work than just finding them in Louisiana. lol I don’t know what to say about that.

“saw Devin fishing and he caught 10 fish but claimed he caught 120 fish , and didn’t keep any so he’s a liar”

They can show the evidence if they like. I have bad trips and post those, too. Those trips just don’t get any views, or I’m not recording and they end up as reports here and, in the past, ended up as reports on Facebook, such as LAFB Inshore. Speaking of which, I have a report from Sunday to post.

I’ve always had haters and people who just make stuff up. Lots of Internet Tough Guys, but they’ve never taken time to say anything to me in person. It is what it is. Those are the vocal few who cannot stand to see someone take a stance for the fish. They’ll complain about their “freedom being taken away” but willingly participate in surveillance capitalism, think Snowden was a traitor and were nowhere to be found when FISA or Patriot Act were passed into law. They’re misled, misinformed and maybe one day they’ll see the error in their ways.

“Yes it’s cca funded I believe, but what’s our other option?”

Don’t let that cloud the tagging program. You’re doing a great thing, just keep doing it.

I’ve already flogged myself 35 times as penance for committing the great sin of following guides instead of just learning how to fish.

If only he knew the number of guides and tournament anglers who ask where I’m fishing. lol

    Hater’s gonna hate.

Thank you! I’ve certainly noticed an amount of people taking that path. That’s a lot more than what there used to be, but there’s still work to do.

Yeah man. If I had the Tracker and the wind wasn’t so dumb I might go take a looky look. I have a feeling that spring is gonna be early this year.

That deep hole is worth stopping for. It sure would be better if the water were low. It could be low with that NE wind since you’re technically west of the river. Definitely don’t ignore that spot.

To build on this: those ponds will probably stay clean with all the high shifting wind, and there will be roseau to hide behind.

The north shoreline of YCB can be good to fish, even with all that south wind blowing on it in the days prior, and the levee there could protect you very well from the predicted north wind.
