Oh, and +1 on the cork. Let’s not reinvent the wheel. When it works, it works. The cork really delivered for me this last winter, it probably will again this spring. lol

“The remarkable thing was, we never saw anyone else fishing. That has never happened to me.”

Yeah, probably because you got out there first instead of waiting for someone to hold your hand and tell you where/when to go.

I see that the wind didn’t blow much, but if it did, that would have made drifting easier. So I wonder if that happened if you would have boated more fish.

Honestly, 22 is great considering you’re basically starting from scratch.

The spring fishing is heating up. I got a report from a buddy in Delacroix who whacked a limit of 60. That’s all I know. Of course, he’s been on the water a lot recently and talks to other guides down there, so he has that advantage. You’ll get recalibrated soon enough.

Great report, as always. You are the man. Lots of talent. Thanks for posting!

Thank you! Yeah, there’s more coming, I’d really like to overhaul Sight Fishing Mastery School and Inshore Fishing 201. All in due time. Just one thing at a time.

This forum is pretty good, too. Definitely leverage it as much as you can. The more homework you do for yourself is the more homework we do for you, if that makes sense.

“I would fish as close to the Gulf of America as I could, weather permitting.”

    Yeah, about that name change.

Guess what I get to do? Go through the entire manuscript that I was *this close* to finishing and update it. lol

Same thing for the websites, whenever and however that is going to happen. But I’m gladly doing it. lol

    Great question.

1.) Don’t put so much weight on clear/clean water. You’d be surprised how often fish are there anyway. Looking for clear/clean water can turn into an unproductive goose chase. I posted a fishing trip YT video fairly recently catching a limit of specks in dirty water on the edge of even dirtier river water. Look through my past reports for Pointe a la Hache for more information.

2.) I’m not saying go to PLH, I’m saying don’t participate in the wild goose chase.

    3.) Where to find clear/clean water: https://www.lafbelite.com/lesson/if101-5-4/

“Called it quits as the sun hit the horizon with 22 specks plus 3 over 20” were released, and 1 slot red.”

Given the circumstances, that’s pretty good.

Sorry to hear about the trailer, but at least you didn’t get promoted to a news headline.

I’m not sure if you’re looking to get the trailer fixed or replaced, but Skipper B’s Trailer in Westwego is pretty good.

Thank you so much for posting a report! That area is about to turn on in a big way if not so already.

Lots of great potential out there. You’re making me itchy to launch the boat.

I know that’s definitely the rules. I believe you can get away with just using your trolling motor and trimming the outboard up. I do not know for certain, however.

” What I noticed in the marsh on the east side is virtually no tide movement. This makes sense being that the only escape is through a few small weir openings”

Yeah, I’ve never enjoyed that. One pond back there had pilings driven all along the bank, that kinda freaked me out, too.

I know the weirs can be good, but so does everyone else in Louisiana.

I’d fish Big Lake more if it weren’t on the other side of the state.

Either way, great report, thanks for posting.

How long are you going to be fishing for? Just the 16th?

Well, all I can say is the exact same thing I said in your last post about this trip you’re planning:

“Yeah, that’s the like the highest the river is gonna be all year. It will also be one of the coldest times of the year. Water elsewhere in Louisiana will be warmer because it hadn’t spent the previous few days flowing down from where it’s frozen.

You may not know, but to go to Venice in March you sure would be driving past a bunch of other places that are gonna be way easier to fish and most likely have more fish. If you’re just looking for bull reds, drum and cats, then you can launch out of Slidell and go fish those on the L&N bridge (railroad bridge that cross Rigolets Pass), or even fish the powerlines on the west side of Lake Pontchartrain *if* the wind cooperates.

You can do the exact same thing soaking dead shrimp at the Rock Dam in Hopedale and further south at the Long Rocks. That’s way easier than messing with the river.”

Also, Boyce’s reply was pretty good.

“Wanted to share this to promote how well LAFB (esp. IF101) can be applied well outside of the Louisiana coast. If you haven’t, do yourself a favor and take the course. Spend the time on GED/Navionics. Make your plan and get after it. This resource is invaluable.”

    It abso-frikkin-lutely can.

Think about it: if I go somewhere out of state, what process do you think I am going to apply? Is Devin going to abandon everything that’s made him successful in Louisiana and start whimpering on Facebook for a handout? Or do you think I’m going to get out there and apply what I know?

I don’t market LAFB outside of Louisiana (though LAFB Elite does enjoy customers from Texas to Virginia) because I think it’s more honest to just stay inside my lane. Stay in my place, figuratively speaking.

So that’s why you’re not going to catch me hawking my wares to people in Florida.

Either way, great report, thanks for posting it!

Actually, I sucked it up and knocked it out. It was way easier than expected. Any video and pictures aren’t getting changed, but the text is done for the book and both websites, save for this forum.

What’s holding me back is the trailer. I’d really like an aluminum trailer. The steel trailer works, but aluminum would be nice. But for the price….maybe just say F it and do the Tracker. lol
