What time did the bite shut off for you guys? Things slowed down for us around 10-10:30 (On 5/24 Elmers). I chalked that up to us moving spots but maybe thats when the fish stopped biting in general.

Also, where is public access for the GI beach? Ive only fished elmers so far but I may go stay down there this weekend and give the GI beach a try.

    Thanks for the report!

“Thought experiment: even if you did have space to slide into at the Long Rocks (or wherever) and you whacked the daylights out of the trout, what did you actually learn? Something you already know?”

100% correct. I would have learned how much I hate being around other boats….something I already know very well lol.

Not fishing as much and having shorter windows of time to fish have made me want to stick closer to home, which is one reason I keep returning to familiar spots. I’m beginning to realize that I’d prefer a shorter trip to a new area over a longer trip where I am just rehashing old patterns. For now, I have my sights set on Grand Isle and the northeast tip of Biloxi Marsh, but Venice is definitely on my list of places to explore.

Insane trip. I can only imagine how good it felt to get on those big trout in a place like Venice. Very well done by all of you guys.

I talked to a buddy who fished hopedale this Monday and said many of the places he checked were dirty. Ended up getting most of his fish on the long rocks.

  • Just had a little girl myself and I can’t wait for moments like this. I just don’t think it gets any better. Great job, pops!

Way more productive way to have a post finals celebration than what I was getting myself into back in the day lol. Great job smashing them and congrats on finishing up!

I’m with ya. I’m doing everything I can outside of renting a hang glider to get out to the Chandys again.

You bet! Happy to give back to a fishery that’s given so much to me. Thank you for your support as well.

I really think a lack of grass has hurt parts of Hopedale that I used to do well in. A few years back I could consistently find fish from the mouth of Bayou Bernard at Coquille to the edge of Fortuna. I could basically just follow the trout throughout that stretch from late winter to the beginning of summer. The southern end of the MRGO was not as good this year as years past as well.

Not this year but last year Lake A produced some good trips. The big rigs are worth checking out and theres a cut in a pipeline on the SW side of the cove that seems to consistently hold trout for some reason.

Your comments are usually golden but this just takes it to another level. Well done!

I usually just pack it in for the summer when it becomes what I call Popping Cork Season. Too much heat, small trout, and running for my little boat. I also use that break for negotiation when I am trying to stay married through duck season lol

Not the fastest but I like that it’s light, easy to work on, and supposedly very reliable. Now I just gotta save up for an offshore boat to beat these winds

Hell yeah. Find a way to fit a few rods in there and I’m game.
