Devin I’m launching from coco marina. I’m staying at a house across from the marina. I just have not heard great reports out of Hopedale and have had buddies doing really well in Cocodrie with the bulls over the last month. I’m driving 12 hrs to fish and will be there for 10 days so I’m just trying to figure out my best option. We mainly flyfish as do my buddies and they have been seeing a lot of belly crawlers on the lower part of the tide in Cocodrie . Mid tide they say the fish are more in the 2-4 feet of water off the shorelines. I don’t know the only way to find out where the fish are is to go and looks like cocodrie might be a better option than Hopedale. Devin what are your thoughts and thanks for responding.

After talking to a bunch of friends who have been fishing Cocodrie this Fall I am changing my plans and heading there to fish instead of Hopedale. I love Hopedale as I’ve been fishing there the last 12+ years but after reading all the community reports here sounds like Hopedale may not be the spot to go. I am always open to trying new areas so Cocodrie it is. My neighbor just got back and said he caught and saw a lot of reds. He fishes there a lot and gave me his tracks and spots so I am not going in totally blind I thank him for that. He mainly fly fishes like I will be doing so he is not picky on giving up info. Anything special I need to know about the area since this will be the first time fishing there. I will be fishing mainly the west side per the spots I got and a little to the east. What wind direction is good or bad for that area? Checking the tides it looks like it will be incoming for the first 5 days early to mid morning then the last 4 days early afternoon. Thanks

I hear you, Devin. I can say it’s not like it was 10-12 years ago with I firsts started going, but I do still have great days when I go to Hopedale this time of year. I leave Nov 16th for 2 weeks starting in Hopedale so we shall see how the fishing is. With that much time I have options to explore.

Thanks Devin I was looking at Port Sulphur or even Cocodrie. I have friends that have places in those 2 areas. Devin it seems like you’re not a big fan of Hopedale.

Troutdawg nice ride. I used to have a pro. I get the 21 next week but I love my 18. Where do you fish mainly? We fish Islamorada and flamingo down here.

Troutdawg thanks for the reply. I am from Ft. Lauderdale fl. I have a Islamorada 18 with 70 hp and a 21r with a 300 merc. I hear you about the bow fishing guys. Have seen to me a decline in fishing over the last 10 years at different spots I fish close to Hopedale marina. My spots further away still produce pretty good. I can only go and fish and see what happens

Devin thanks for the feed back. I have fished the MRGO but all the way out on the south end by Gardner island. Are you saying to try at the damn and work my way south along the edges depending on the wind? How is this area to fish off the east side of MRGO I have not spent much time in there. See map red circle.

Or looking at google map how is the lake Eugenia area? Thanks

Devin thanks again for the response. In the past we have had days of 50+ reds on fly/spin. I do a lot searching and fish a lot of areas. If I get to an area and do not see much action (bait, wakeing fish, ect) I move on fairly quick to another spot until I find fish. For example one weekend I fished white log lake area and never left that area for 3 days and caught plenty of bull reds on fly. It was probably the 4th area I hit before finding a good body of fish. I am fishing for 5 days this year so I will take the first day to hit as many of my spots as possible to see where the fish are. See the map I have with a lot of my spots. Some are better than others depending on the year I go. But with all my spots I will find fish.

Devin thanks for the reply. I have been fishing Hopedale on and off for the last 10 years. I know the area well. I have fished on my skiff 18′ Chittum and have also fished with guide friends. We launch out of Hopedale marina. I have done very well fishing Hopedale October-November so that’s where I go. I have not been to Venice, so I do not know the area at all. I drive 10 hours to get there so I go where I know. We primarily are flyfishing for reds. Last time I was there was in November of 2023, and I fished the areas mentioned in my first post. The fishing was great. I have not been there in a couple of years, so I was just posting to see if anything has changed much from 2 years ago. Why do you say fishing in the areas I stated are not good in November? Yes, I know Venice is a good area, but I am not familiar with the area. Thanks
