I’ll be flying solo in Lake P Saturday. I plan to launch at the butt crack of dawn and hit the bridges before the crowd shows up. That could be 2 hours or 10 minutes, who knows. Once I’m surrounded by the GNO population, I’ll head out to other areas of Lake P. I may take a look at the rocks near Irish Bayou, the east shore of Lake P, then I’ll probably venture into Lake Catherine. I’ll be running around like my hair is on fire if I have to.

It looks like Speckled Trout are chewing all over the place, but I’m trying to temper my expectations. Last time I got too fired up in Delacroix when everyone in LAFB was fishing that morning, and I came back with the worst box out of everyone. Lol.

Strategy number 2 is to search Lake P for @will-grand ’s boat and mooch off him because we all know he will be hammering them. 😂

When I first got my boat, I was idling around an area I was unsure of, and sure enough I hit some rocks with my lower unit. Now, I was only going 3-4 mph, so all that happened was a little ding on my skeg and a bend blade on my prop, so I replaced my prop, put some JB weld on the skeg, and re-painted it. That’s a helluva lot less expensive than replacing a destroyed lower unit. Hitting something while idling will at least keep your fishing trip going most of the time.

To piggy back off what Devin said, I always idle whenever I am unsure about white poles, or anything else for that matter. I’m coming off plane, switching my graph to side scan, and going sloooooooow to see what’s around me. And of course checking my depth. Based off that information, I’ll either keep idling or get back up on plane. Idling is your best friend sometimes in the marsh, so don’t be shy about taking it slow. Let some other knuckle head pass you on plane and watch him destroy his lower unit first.

Hell yes! A smackdown!!!!! Great trip and even better report. The mosquito theory is interesting for sure. The weather looks nice this weekend and your report makes me want to get out there.

I agree with everyone else about using the fish’s momentum. I also try to make my boat flips smooth (not yanking it out the water). The smoother you are the better. I probably boat flip the majority of my trout, but the big ones (a judgement call once they surface) I net every time.

Well, I guess I’ll go add a CCBDDDGAT to my Tackle Warehouse cart now…

    Great trip!

Sounds like it was a great tourney and I’m sad I couldn’t make it. I like your style of pre-fishing and scouting out some spots— Bass University stuff right there.

Tough day in some tough conditions, but man what great feedback from Devin on this trip. Definitely a good report to bookmark and come back to on another day with similar conditions.

How are you liking that Bass Boat? You have a new Ranger right?

My initial thoughts were to check the connections, but I see that you already did that. I would still load them up with some anti-corrosion spray for electronics.

Other than that, if the transducer is only 13 months old, sounds like it could just be a defective one. I’m sure that would be warrantied. Hopefully they get you straightened out!

Now this is a brilliant idea that I’ve never thought of. Great advice!

Lol. I need to get me one of those hats for when I fish the bridges.
