No problems for me. The only thing I’ve noticed recently is that some of the community threads were wonky, displaying a “Critical Error”. Idk if it’s my iPad or the site, but it seems to be fixed the last few days.

    ROUTE FEEDBACK

    I created 3 routes:

Purple Route: Gets me from Cypress Cove to the North side of Yellow Cotton Bay

Yellow Route: Gets me to each fishing spot

Orange Route: alternate route to get out of Wagon Wheel and back into Red Pass

The purple route I think is ok. The part that makes me most nervous is leaving Wagon Wheel heading North into YCB.

The yellow route I also think is ok, though I have no clue as to how to get back from the end of this route (near Buras) other than back tracking the whole thing. I marked a point “Very Sketchy”. This area looks like sketch city on GED. Does anyone know a way to get South from the end of the yellow route near Buras? I don’t mind back tracking, just want as many options as possible.

The orange route I also think is ok. Taking it slow in some turns along the way and I think I’ll be fine. My question is where it crosses Bay Tambour. Looks shallow on some imagery with plenty of prop scars. Has anyone crossed this?

    Let me know your thoughts.

Welcome aboard! There’s no better place to learn how to hammer the fish than right here in this group

    Happy Birthday and welcome!

If you apply everything you learn in here you will 100% catch fish out of your set up. You won’t find anything better than what you’ll learn here. I actually had a trolling motor powered kayak briefly before I bought my boat. Good luck!

Devin, based off those estimates, is this the worst fish kill you have ever seen?

Losing those Trout are terrible, but it seems like 2-3 years of Redfish Stock is like an atomic bomb being dropped on them. That hurts BAD.

Nice reel! Casting tackle opens up a whole new world of inshore fishing. The casting accuracy and control you have over the lure is awesome.

Also @Devin , with the weather warming up, what are your thoughts on Trout still hanging in those deep channels?

My thoughts are that they may be scattered a bit more around YCB, so I’m prepared to pop a cork and throw a floating jerk bait in the shallows as well. I plan to start in those deep channels first, graphing and fishing where I see activity. But also working those ledges hard with a jig.

If I end up having to drift around the shallows to grind out a box, so be it, but I’m definitely bringing a drift sock or two with this wind.

Yeah, I’m with you on that. It’s tough watching people mistreat one of the greatest gifts we are given as Louisiana residents (the marsh and inshore fishing). But it is what it is, all you can do is control your own actions and lead by example, which you obviously do.

“There’s days I’m optimistic, there’s other days I want to hang it up. If Louisiana just becomes another Florida then I’ll be disappointed. I just want to preserve the legacy Louisiana has. It’s out of my control.”

I feel you on this in many different levels. I have days where I feel like this about my business, general life problems, and definitely fishing.

Awesome! I appreciate your feedback. That Jody Ann route kept me up later than I wanted it to lol. I couldn’t pinpoint exactly where it goes after it makes the turn North out of Wagon Wheel. I’m going to fine tune it and post my perceived route hopefully this evening when I have time. I like having multiple options to run in case things get dicey weather wise or for any other reason. I feel this is even more important in Venice since everything is so sketchy to begin with.

Also, the weather is not doing me any favors lol. I hope that changes. Friday 2/14 is about the only day that makes YCB doable, though it will be quite the ride getting there. Saturday and Sunday are just atrocious. I would take literally any other wind than a South wind LOL. Like come on, give me some good weather! That is going to make my chances at getting to and fishing East Bay very difficult or impossible.

That being said, this is Louisiana and anything can happen with the weather. I’m going regardless, but it looks like I may be hiding in the canes flipping for bass and floating some (hopefully) clean ponds to CPR some redfish.

I’ll post some East Bay routes for feedback later as well! Even if I can’t run them this trip, they’re good to have posted in here for myself and others.

“Yeah, put yourself in my shoes. lol Usually a business like LAFB is one you can scale and count on having around for awhile. But seeing that Louisiana’s overall decline (land loss, continued menhaden reduction, smaller fish populations and a boneheaded constituency…to name a few) it’s pretty clear to me that my efforts have an expiry date. When that is, I don’t know.”

To me, tougher fishing overall in Louisiana just makes LAFB even more valuable. Just a different viewpoint.

I’m remaining positive and hope you’re right. I know social media can make things seem much worse than they actually are.

I’ll put it this way: I had my kayak for about 30 days, fully rigged it out, then sold it and bought a bought a boat month later.

In my opinion, Kayak fishing is a great way to get your feet wet (no pun intended) with fishing. The only thing I didn’t like was how limited I was to one area.

However, if you’re first getting started with fishing, it’s a great choice. I think you’ll enjoy it!

I fished Lake Catherine mostly with mine. I caught 11 speckled trout out of it one day in Sawmill Pass next to a bunch of boats. I felt like the minimalist King.

Man 8-10 sacalait on the Tchefuncte would have me doing backflips I’d be so fired up. The most I’ve ever caught is 5 LOL. It’s such a tough river but I hope to have more success this year.

I drove by the 4th Street launch on my way home from work and saw that they are re-building it currently. So who knows how long it’s out of commission. That must be why the public ramp by the drawbridge in Madisonville has been so busy lately.

I talked to a reliable source (you would know of him) and he said this is the worst fish kill we have had since 1989. He said the difference between now and then, was that back then it was easier to for the fish to rebound because Louisiana had a lot more marsh, a lot more fish, a lot more forage for them to eat, and a lot less PRESSURE from anglers. He estimates it only took them 2 spawning cycles to rebound more or less.

So back then compared to now, it will likely take way longer for a rebound.

This is echoing what you are saying, so hearing it from multiple people I trust, I think y’all are both spot on.

I think you should make a YouTube video about this. You have a great following and your words hold a lot of weight in the Inshore Community. Whether or not people love or hate it, I think they need to hear what you have to say about this subject. That and no one else that has a following like you in the Louisiana Fishing Community has enough spine to tell it like it is and call things out. Just my two cents.

That’s awesome! I love when you think you’re snagged and then that reel starts screaming. Great feeling.
