Great, well written report! Pretty awesome feeling putting your friends on a lot of fish like that.

Thanks for the report! I will be hitting Delacroix soon so this was helpful.

Sawmill Pass has plenty of little trout right now from what I’ve heard. I never really fish it.
I plan to fish this area again Friday, but it’s so unsatisfying lol. Venice is where it’s at.

Where would you be using it mostly? That will be a big factor in determining what boat to go with.
Will you be fishing open water mostly or the marsh?
Obviously with a family, a bay boat seems like one of the best options.

I gotta get out to the EBM. Nice catch and nice report!

You’ve definitely seemed to have figured out the Trout. Great job man and thanks for your report.

Amazing!!!!!! Awesome trip, awesome report, awesome grind. Venice is only going to get better!

This is the route I have ran multiple times. Both the green and the pink routes have been fine. There’s a couple of shallow spots and oysters up in that little body of water between muscle bay and the mouth of crooked bayou. You can see some of them on some old GED satellite images. But you should be ok on those routes.

That’s pretty much the route I take too. I agree on the west side of stump being more dicey in my experience.

That turned out to be a pretty solid day. Nice report.

Personally on an incoming tide in Delacroix, I would be hunting redfish in the shallows. As far as trout go, on an incoming tide I would probably hit those non shrimp spots up and see if any action was there. Rocks, oysters, etc.

West Delacroix for reds is always a solid plan.

When I was boat shopping, some of things that factored into my decision were:
1. I wanted a brand new boat. I wanted the warranty that it comes with and wanted one that was mine from the get go.
2. I wanted to make sure I bought a brand of boat that was reputable, but also had plenty of authorized service centers nearby so if something ever went wrong, I wouldn’t have to trailer the boat across several states just to drop it off at the dealer.
3. My only option was to keep it in my garage, so I had to get one that would fit.
4. I wanted a boat that was built for mostly marsh fishing, but one that could also make longer runs across open water if the weather is right.
5. I wanted one that had plenty of storage compartments, so I wouldn’t have to have stuff laying all over the deck of the boat while I’m fishing.
I ended up going with an aluminum bass boat because it fit my needs for my current fishing situation.
That’s how I made my decision, so hopefully that can help you make yours.

No problem man. It took me a while to build up the courage to head down to Venice, but once I finally did it was worth it x1000.
If you go with the expectation of exploring and learning, with catching fish as a bonus to the trip, you will undoubtedly have an amazing time. That River and Delta are a sight to see.
If you need help with routes or anything like that, I’m happy to help.
I’ve launched at both Cypress Cove and Venice Marina, and I must say that Cypress Cove is superior in terms of less of a crowd, better parking situation, and there aren’t tons of people standing around waiting for their charter.
I’ll be down there again Oct. 18th and 19th, so if thats when your trip is, let me know and I’ll shoot you my number. It’s always good to have another person down there that you know since it’s such a remote area. I also plan to go as much as possible in November and December.
Otherwise enjoy the planning my friend!
