Sounds like a successful weekend. I would imagine those Islands will be on fire all summer. Thank you for confirming that.

    Great report!

Sounds like a great trip. Never fun to have another boat pull up and start whacking fish in front of you, but I’m glad you made a move and found some biting.

    Great report!

Amazing trip! It was Venice at its finest.

I would also like to add that we put on a clinic fishing jigs on casting tackle in front of a group of guides. They watched us boat flip trout after trout.

    Things you can count on:

    1. The sun coming up

    2. Billy G’s Charter Service laying the smack down

    Great report yet again

Captain Devin. You can sight fish another day. Go get the Venice big girls!

Some mapping cards have them, but you don’t really need them. You can just cruise around the lake and you’ll find them easily.

Haha during the grind yesterday all I could think about was dead shrimp under a cork.

I’d much rather catch them in a more tactical manner though.

I don’t sight fish or target redfish exclusively all too often, but this summer will be a summer of chasing redfish for me, so I’m ready to get back out there.

The summer heat and my small boat makes me want to stay in the marsh.

That being said, I’m sure I’ll see someone whack the trout this summer and I’ll get the bug and make some long runs.

Hopefully so. I think I just need to do redfish trips when it’s closer to high tide too.

“I’d compare river levels from last year to this year. IIRC they were about the same, but I could be wrong.”

Great advice. I didn’t think of that. Definitely important to do and I need to add River Levels to my log.

“If I were you, going to Delacroix, I would look hard at Bayou Duhe on the west side of Lery and the south/southwest shoreline of Lery especially if grass is growing there. Then Spanish Lake and whatever lee shoreline in Grand. Little Oak, too.”

Thank you for this— another thing I didn’t think of. I’m going to start here then continue my way down Oak River and fish closer to Point a la Hache. It would be great if I could knock out a limit quick then go searching for other fish and logging my time to find new areas that produce.

Another question I’ve got: when you’re targeting redfish and it’s not really clean or sunny enough to sight fish them, I would imagine you’re just blind casting down shorelines? That’s pretty much what I do, but what is your go to lure when you’re in blind cast search mode? I’ve always used a 1/4 oz or 1/8 jig with an H&H gold blade because it’s what I’m most comfortable with. I know the lure doesn’t make all that much of a difference if the fish are there, just curious as to what your go to set up would be.
