Marker 54 Jerk Shrimp is the most bang for your buck. I’ve caught over 100 trout on one shrimp. They are around $4 per shrimp.

    1. That is correct, it was blowing south.

    2. I wasn’t able to sight fish them but I could see gars close to the boat passing by. Next time I will see how good my balance is 😂. I have an xi5 that uses a remote control.

Since youre familar with the area, I own a pool hall just down the street. It used to be Tim’s back when you worked out that way. We bought it in 2016 and now it’s The Break Room.

I’ve been using Marker 54 for over a year now and my finding is this. The shrimplets tend to get smaller fish. The Jerk Shrimp are bigger and like they say bigger bait= bigger fish. I’ve found this to hold true with these baits. Nice report!

I was killing them in the areas you mentioned for months but unfortunately the keeper size trout have moved further south. You have to go to Grand Isle to find consistency. It’s worth the extra 15 min of run time to just go straight there.

I talked to him but I will put it in here as well. I don’t believe he went far enough south. If he had fished the same areas he sent me for this trip but went 2 weeks ago he would have put together a good box. The trout have moved further south. The focus for that area really is Beauregard Island (all the way around but mostly in the main channels) and Independence reef. I do chase down birds but those current lines don’t disappoint either! Depending on the storm, I’ll be back out later this week.

So I’ve learned to love sitting birds! My theory is that once they feed early morning and they are full, they will sit on the shrimp. They are very often in or near a major current line making it almost always worth a try!

The shrimp were brown. That’s correct the water was definitely deeper. We were in 10-12 feet of water compared to Hackberry where it’s about 6 ft everywhere.

My wife just says the slime doesn’t come off in normal wash cycle. She has been experimenting with different things and found that vinegar helps. I don’t take time to wash my hands so my shirt and shorts get pretty slimy on a good trip.
